It was a normal day in the Academy. Or a normal first day, I mean. I woke up early in the morning to prepare myself for this new year with new students willing to learn. But I never seem to get used to the first day of class. I've been the Guide of the students for almost 10 years, and I get nervous every single first day. But it's obvious, I'm going to meet new kids, and they're going to need my guidance. That is why the Balance Council trusted me this assignment.
I looked out the window and noticed all te people lined up in the entrance.
- Gefyra, are the rooms ready for the students?
- Yes, Guide Luria, the maintenance department has finished now with the last room on the West Wing.
- Wonderful, let's open the doors. - I said, while giving a signal to the door's greeters.
All the kids entered to the lobby, and they looked so happy to be here. I never get used to their smiley faces. Some of the older students were happy to see their friends too, giving that some of them live in nations far apart from each other.
- Hello. - I said, but everyone ignored me.
- Hello. - I repeated, but they ignored me again.
I whispered "Crescere" while pointing to my throat with my hand.
- Students, please pay attention to me. - and having my voice volume increased, they listened to me perfectly and, shocked, they start looking at me.
- Thank you. My name is Luria, and I will be your Guide during your stay at the school. Given that only the first year students are new, I invite the rest of the students to go to the Assigning Counselor on the second floor. - I said, while the majority o the students started climbing up the stairs.
I looked at them, they were a mix of confusion and joy, so strangely delightful.
- Welcome young students to your first year at the Faydell Academy, this school was founded by the first five magic users of the entire planet, each one of them from the respective five nations where magic exists. And also, descendants from the two Supreme Forces, Fayhedge and Dellmere. These five descendants reunited here, on Aelhollow to found a place where they can teach how to use magic and the different abilities the next generations were going to be born with. So, keeping their will, we here teach young people to use their abilities and magic so when they grow up, they will be ready for anything that comes up their way.
- Excuse me, Guide Luria, are we all going to be on the same classes?
- Not all of you, darling. You are all different, or almost all of you. So you have different abilities and a different use of magic. That means some of you may share all the classes, some of the classes or no classes at all.
- Oh, alright.
- Any other questions?
- Yes, I have one. - A young boy exclaimed - How about the dorms? Are we sharing with different people or with the ones in our nation?
- Good question, dear. We here promote convivence, and that means you will live with different people from the different nations.
- Great. Thanks. - He smiled.
- You're welcome. Now please go to the second floor to the Assigning Counselor to get a short quiz to determine what classes and room you're in this year. You've got the rest of the morning free, but lunch is at 12 o'clock so be punctual. - I moved away from the staircase.
It wasn't that hard, Luria, why did you get so nervous?, I guess it was just a hunch. I've closed the doors and noticed a young boy sitting on the staircase, with a sad look on his face.
- Hey, what's your name?
- I'm Igriv, Igriv Nightore.
- And Igriv, why aren't you with the other kids? Don't you are excited to know what classes you're in? or to get to learn how to use your abilities?
- I don't have any abilities.
- You don't? Well, Igriv, let me tell you, if you didn't have any abilities you couldn't be sitting here right now. the Academy has a magic shield spell so the only people allowed in have to be magical. - I noticed a smile on his face.
- So my ability is to go through a magic shield spell, cause I don't remember having any magic at all.
- Then your job, our job, will be to find out what magic do you possess. Now go to the Assigning Counselor, and we'll talk again later, alright?
- Ok.
I noticed a glimmer in his neck, it was from his necklace. A necklace I could have recognized from a mile away.
- Igriv, where did you get that necklace of yours?
- This necklace? I don't really know. I just remember having it since I was a baby. My aunt said it is a gift from my parents.
- And who are your parents, exactly?
- I don't know. I've been living with my aunt since I was born. She never told me who they were, or where they were. And everytime I ask her she just avoids the question. Why?
- Oh, no reason. It's just the necklace is very interesting, that's all.
- Alright, I'll see you later, Guide Luria.
- Bye, Igriv. - I smiled. But as he was walking away, my smile turned into a concerned expression.
I walked up to the headmistress' office, on the first floor, and knocked the door repeatedly until she opened it.
- What happened, Luria?
I entered her office and start walking in circles, as I always do when I'm nervous about something.
- Headmistress, I don't know if this can be true or no, but I think there is a student that might be the Shadowed.
- What? Are you sure? This cannot be, Luria. The Shadowed prophecy exists since the times of this school's foundation. It was actually written by the five founders who were also the first Council ever created.
- I know, and I don't know if this is totally true. But there was a young boy, a first year young boy actually, sitting alone on the stairs and after a conversation where he didn't only deny having any abilities at all, but he was also wearing the necklace of the Shadowed...
-...the Raven. - she said, completing my sentence.
- And I am absolutely sure it is that necklace, and he even said it was a gift from his parents. The same parents he has never known. And the ones his aunt refuses to talk about.
The headmistress looked out the window, focusing in the sky.
- Then it must be true. And we must keep an eye on him, before it's too late.
- Yes, headmistress.
- You're in charge of him, you need to get him to develop his abilities. Because he will need them.
- Alright. Anything else?
- Not for now. Be careful. Don't mention this to anyone, specially him. We will tell this to him in the right time.
I walked out the room, worried as I've never been. If Igriv is the Shadowed, then nothing good is up to come.
Oh, Supreme Forces, please protect us. Please protect him.
