Chapter 1: Kyla's Decision

It was like any other day at school the bullying keeps continuing...My life was always miserable and distorted with the thoughts of my secret that only 2 people know. Until, I found the person who I loved since day 1.

I was rushing to class as my alarm didn't go off, my little, scrawny legs running as fast as they can take me. The corridors are empty...I keep rushing and I felt a smack to the face. It was a locker door left open by a person in my class, someone else was in the corridor at the end, I can't tell who but they come sprinting towards me as if I was in need of help as I fell down closer and closer to the floor. Everything was a blur but I eventually managed to get up...something about the boy seemed so familiar.

"hello? You need any help? Are you okay?! He looked down at me offering a hand.

"I'm fine...I just was in a rush as my alarm didn't go off in time" I felt my cheeks burning up with a warm sensational feeling.

"Take my hand and I'll walk you to class, my treat" he smiled down at me as he helped me up.

Something about him makes me feel happy and wanted for once.

We are walking at a reasonable pace to get to the classroom.

"I'm Kai" I say as i'm wondering if he notices my feminine features.

"Hi Kai i'm Quinn" He glances at me looks confused. We manage to make it to the classroom just before Mr Gray took the register.

"Kyla why are you late..." Mr Gray stares at me and notices Quinn. "Quinn what a wonderful surprise dragging along one of my fellow students, probably causing trouble I see?"

"Sorry sir it was all my fault he just walked me to class as I was rushing and didn't know where I was..." I look around the room for an empty seat and there is two spaces right at the back of the classroom in the far left hand corner.

"Hurry up miss...Quinn take your seat" Mr Gray closes the door and walks back to the smartboard. "Turn to page 129 of your cell biology textbook"

Quinn and I take our seats, grabs our text books from our school bags and starts to read.

"I never knew we were in the same class." I whispered to Quinn.

"Same...also why did Mr Gray call you Kyla? Are you transgender?...I-I have no problem with that...but you l-look s-so masculine" He smiles at me, his eyes are so blue like the ocean and has a hint of autumn leaves in them.

"Yes...but just between me and you as I can't tell anyone" I proceed to tell him that for a minute.

"Hey faggot why you got short hair you retard!" Someone shouts at me but I can't tell who as it is quite noisy. "Kyla, answer me you piece of s###!" I can tell by the high pitched, squeaky voice the girl is none other than Carley.

"Carley leave my classroom now! that language should not be used in this classroom, let alone school!" Mr Gray shouts as we all sit in silence. To be honest Carley's face looks like a pig on too much drugs.

"b-but sir-" She whines.

"But nothing go to Mrs Hanson's office now, someone will be down there to hand your bags in" he slams the table with a clenched fist and points to the door.

She got out of her seat and just stares at me with a look of revenge, she never takes her eyes off me. It's really creepy as she looks at me when I'm walking to school. To be honest I think she likes Quinn but I don't mind. She storms out of the classroom and slams the door behind her.

"Now that Carley has gone let us continue with the work we were doing. Can anyone tell me what the white blood cells job is?"

"It is a cell produced within the body to fight of pathogens unknown and known to the body so you cannot get infected or ill" a guy in the front of the class starts a conversation with Mr Gray so he isn't paying attention to anyone else or is aware of what people are on about.

"Hey Kai are you alright that Carley  girl is a b#### just ignore her as she is worthless to think about." He comforts me by putting his left hand on my right shoulder.

"Y-yeah...this happens all the time so there is no need to worry about me" I can't help it. My heart is beating faster and I don't know why.

"Do you want to go somewhere at lunch considering both of us have a free period last so we can go to the arcade?" Quinn takes his hand away from me and puts it on his desk.

"Sure...also, we could visit the lake near the arcade and have some food. I will call my mum after third period so we can hang out and she doesn't have to worry about me." He smiles at me and I smile back.

The bell went so I packed my textbook in my bag and waited for Quinn to finish talking to Mr Gray about something, which I want to know. I was waiting for him then...

"You dirty pig hanging out with my Quinn-" I turned around and it was a girl I have never seen before, probably 5"5, long red hair up in a pony tail, which you can see her natural brown hair coming through, she has dark brown eyes, which give off a bad vibe when you just look at her. I think her name is Sadie? Hope not as she is a family friend.

"Your Quinn he is no one's property you know-" I say back hoping for her to leave me alone, instead it turns out to be the opposite.

"Yes my Quinn! you tranny, bet you live on the streets where people like you belong" before I could say anything I get pushed into the wall by Sadie and I can feel the terror from a few centimetres away. People surround us forming a makeshift barrier so none of us both can escape.

"Yo girl whatever your name is stay there! My fists would like to smash that ugly face of yours" This random guy a year older than me who I think is around 17, starts to walk up to me and he moves Sadie out of the way and he starts punching me. After getting enough punches thrown at me I collapse on the floor crying and begging for it to stop....I hear a voice, well it's very faint but it sounds like Quinn.

"Hey douchebag leave them alone they did nothing wrong now leave them!!!" Quinn forcefully pushes everyone out of the way to get up close. "You should never hit a girl you mother f#####!" Before I knew it Quinn was punching the guy and throwing him back and forth between him and the crowd. Eventually, the guy falls down on the floor and everyone runs off scared that if they hit me or anyone else, they'd get the same consequences. He sees me all battered and bruised, bleeding from the nose.

"Kai...Kai hello?!"He shakes me, I just can't keep my eyes open anymore, I feel week and ill, I can't control anything and my eyes just unknowingly shut....

Quick note the plans for after lunch does get scrapped but later returns with a twist. Will Kai wake up or not? Will Sadie visit Kai's family? Cliffhangers are good in some ways :)
