"Now come on Maeve, just give it a try," my friend Vivian said as we sat on a bench outside eating lunch.
"I don't know, it's been so long, and it just brings up the past," I said, brushing my long black curls out of my face. My royal blue eyes scaled the book I was reading.
"Maeve, you hardly get out, you don't date, I don't even think you have friends, and you most certainly don't have a job."
"You're wrong on one. I do have a friend, I have you."
"I can't be the only one."
"Many people don't want to be my friend, though I can't imagine why."
Vivian laughed and took the book away from me. "Maybe that's because you always have your nose stuck in a book? Or maybe it's because you intimidate them."
"I only intimidate them because they failed to-"
"There it is again!" She cried out exasperated.
"There's what?"
"You're smart side."
"Oh please, I'm not that smart."
"At least you're modest about it."
"Modest? No no, I'm just sparring your feelings so you don't feel dumber."
Vivian sighed and placed her head in her hand, handing me back my book. "Get yourself a boy, or a job, I don't care which."
"You do, otherwise you wouldn't be so bent on me getting one."
Vivian just shook her head, handing me my phone that had been on the table. "Your aunt has texted you."
"Yes, I know."
"You should accept."
"I've already told you."
"Ah, right, memories. Well, facing the memories sometimes can help you heal."
"Or damage you further."
"Don't tell me you're scared."
"Me? Scared?" I scoffed, hiding my fear, trying to shrug it off.
"Yes, you know you are, admit it. Now go."
I sighed, closing my book and heading back to my flat and looking at my phone. Moving back to London had never crossed my mind. Certainly not something I wanted, but Vivian was right. I needed a job and my aunt was not only offering that, but a place to stay.
I quickly texted her back saying that I would be there in a few days. Until then I spent most of my time packing and getting everything arranged.
When I arrived in London I was greeted by the familiar sounds and smells.
I quickly walked up to the door, paying the cab and walking up to the door. 221B Baker Street.
I walked in and walked into the little kitchen area, off to the side of the stairs.
"Aunt Hudson?" I asked.
"Oh Maeveen! How are you my dear?! It's been so long!" She exclaimed, hugging me. I hugged her back and smiled.
"I'm well, how are you?"
"Oh just fine dear. Goodness, you've grown, how long has it been?"
"Seven years."
"That means you're twenty-four! My goodness!"
I laughed awkwardly, seven years ago was not the best time of my life, and I preferred to keep it in the past.
