"Diane, I told you I don't wanna go!" I said, as I rubbed my eyes.
"But you have to. We have an RSVP." My mother replied.
I took a quick look at the white clock on the wall. 4:30 PM. It had been only an hour since I had fallen asleep after school.
My mom, Diane, who was an international supermodel, had been blabbing on about some movie premier that she was invited to. I liked calling her by her name.
"No Diane. Let me sleep." I said as I twisted on the leather couch.
"Get up honey. We need to get you dressed." Diane said, ignoring me.
I sat up slowly on the couch as I looked at Diane.
Diane was 42, but she had flawless skin. Her blonde hair cascaded down her shoulder. I had nothing much in common with Diane, other than the green eyes. Compared to me, who had a Brazilian tan, my mother had much fairer skin. I assumed that I got the tan skin from my father, who I knew nothing about. Diane wore a blue sleeveless dress and pumps. Pumps as in five inches.
"No Diane. It's not my thing. Besides, I have a group study with Vicky and Brad. I have a geometry test tomorrow." Victoria, who was nicknamed Vicky, was my best friend. Bradley was her twin brother.
Diane's face turned stern. "I told you not to hangout with those farm kids." My mom berated.
"Can you stop calling them that?"I said as calmly as possible. Vicky and Brad's father was a farmer. I was tired of my mother treating them like they were dirtbags.
"Why? Am I wrong?" My mother said. "Why do you defend those savages?"
"At least they do something more useful than walking around in expensive clothes and high heels." I said, raising my voice. I got up from the couch "And they're not savages."
"Don't insult my job." Diane said. If she was mad at me, she didn't show it on her face. "If I didn't do this job, you wouldn't be having this comfortable life."
"I would rather have a mother who cared more." I replied back. I took a deep breath and I pointed at the door. "Get out, please."
"I'll send your dress to your bedroom. After you've put on your dress I'll send the hairdresser and makeup artist here."Diane said, before she exited the bedroom.

"Hey, Adri. We're coming over." Vicky's voice boomed through the phone. She always seemed really excited to come to my place.
"Don't even bother. I have to go somewhere with my mom." I told my best friend as I adjusted my pink chiffon lined empire dress and looked in the mirror.
My dark brown hair was in a messy bun. The strapless dress showed off my shoulders and arms. The dress did cover my legs, which I was okay with. I did consider myself attractive, but not as much as my mother.
"Where?" Vicky asked, sounding disappointed.
"Some movie premier." I said as I slipped on my shoes. They were flat, unlike the ones my mother wears.
"Wait a sec." I heard Vicky say.
"What happened?" I asked her after sometime.
"Brad asked me what happened. Haha!" She laughed.
Last year Brad had asked me out. I acted like I was oblivious that he had asked me out on a date and pretended that I didn't take it that way. I wanted to be just friends with Brad.
"Wow, that's awesome!" Vicky screamed through the phone.
"No it's not." Adri grumbled. "I'll fail tomorrow's geometry test. And I'm going to have to listen to Mr. Lachowski telling me that I'll get no where in life."
