Stereotypes

It' natural for people to depend on what they already know about an area, or culture, but some individuals take it too far. Some let fear overcome them and some make fun of the culture or place. Let's talk about an inner city like Cleveland or Akron. Automatically you may think of crimes and black people. Well, it's partially true. Some people may seem scary but have the biggest hearts. People are still afraid to go there, but we can't help it.

Now think of the suburbs - nice and friendly with no problems. Not every suburb is like that.

I'm going to pick on my own culture - the Greeks. Sometimes when I tell someone I'm Greek, they ask me in the most serious way, "So, do you like, believe in the ancient Greek gods and mythology?" Believe it or not, people have asked me that, I respond with a slightly annoyed smile and say, "No, we are Orthodox Christians. We believe in one God," They don't know better. They should, but they don't. In general, people should learn more instead of assuming.
