The Brightest Witch

It was a beautiful day when Amber got her letter. Being a half-blood, she had been expecting this letter since she was seven, when she found out her mother was a witch born to muggle parents. As Amber was reading the legends about Harry Potter and his adventures, she heard a loud crash as a bird swooped into her room and ran into the desk lamp. She jumped at the noise, but then realized it was just an owl. She stood there for a moment, stunned with surprise, then ran to open the letter tied to the owl's leg.  It was finally here! Her letter to Hogwarts had finally arrived! Once she had opened the letter, she ran into the sitting room to tell her parents.

When she got into the sitting room, she noticed her parents talking quietly about what was in the newspaper. As she walked up to them, her father quickly put the paper away. She saw a glimpse of something moving during his attempt to hide it, a sign that it was no ordinary newspaper. "What's in the news?", she asked, surprised at their need to hide the paper. "Oh, it's nothing." Said her mother, straightening up. "What did you need?"
"I got my letter to Hogwarts!", she exclaimed.
"That's wonderful!" said her father.

"What was your favorite part about Hogwarts?" Amber asked her mother.
"Oh, I have some of the best memories from Hogsmeade! It was absolutely wonderful!"

Amber's mind was racing, trying to imagine what Hogwarts would look like compared to the way she had imagined it. What would the common rooms look like? The only pictures she had seen were of her mother and friends in the Hufflepuff common room. And what house would she be in? Would she follow in her mothers footsteps? She couldn't wait to find out.

After talking with her mother about adventures at Hogwarts, Amber went back to her room, imagining what her own experience at Hogwarts would be like. At some point during their long conversation, her mother had given her one of the old potions schoolbooks to read. Since there was so much time before she had to pack her trunk, she decided to go back to her room and read the beginning of her new book.

The Twins

It all started when they were five years old. James and John Miller could make strange things happen when they became angry or sad. One time, when they were 7 years old, they were fighting in their yard and a large tree branch almost killed their 3 year old sister. After many strange happenings, all including at least one of the twins, their parents gave up on trying to fix them and abandoned them on the side of the road.

The boys were living off of trashed food, and were almost constantly fighting. There was practically nothing in common between the two, unless of course you count the looks; they were twins after all. James might be taller, but they both have the same blond hair and green eyes. However, John was always being reckless and acting before he thinks, while James would be the one who took his time and asked for help rather than stealing. They continued to live on the streets like this for 3 years. On the day of their eleventh birthday, a strange man wearing a flowing, lilac cloak came up to them while they were looking for food in an alley.

The man gave them each a letter with beautiful handwriting, addressed to them in green ink. They stared at the man. "Well, go on and open your letters!" said the man with a smile. The two boys cautiously opened up the letters and each pulled out two pieces of parchment. The man stayed completely silent until John, after reading the first piece of parchment asked ,"What does it mean by school of witchcraft and wizardry?"

"Well," said the man," you are both wizards and you need to learn how to control your magic. This school can teach you everything you need to know, but before I explain anything else, allow me to introduce myself. I am Professor Sefore Jemude, the current headmaster of Hogwarts."

The children stared at him as if he had three heads. "So you're a wizard also?" James asked in amazement. "Yes, I am. And since you have been accepted at Hogwarts, you will be trained by the finest teachers I could hire."

"But we don't have any money for school," replied James.

"Hogwarts has a fund set aside for those who can't afford it." said Professor Jemude.

After a few more questions and comments, the arrangements were made and the boys followed Professor Jemude out of the alley. The three suddenly disappeared into thin air with only a small pop.

The Apprentice

She grew up with stories of magic. Harry Potter saving the world. Sabina's parents showed her and her sister everything they needed to know about becoming witches. But by the time Sabina was 9, there were still no signs of magical powers. Her sister, Isadorale, had already been accepted into Hogwarts because she was two years older. Since it seemed that Sabina was a squib, which is a person born to wizard parents but with no magical powers, her parents turned her away and acted as if she didn't exist. They locked her in the attic for years. What else would you expect from a Pure-blooded family?

However, all that seclusion ended on Sabina's lucky day. Isadorale is very kind, and, even though her parents disliked it, she often went to visit Sabina in the attic. Isadorale, or as friends and family call her, Isa, was the only company Sabina ever got. The year she got her letter the family went to Diagon Alley, and that was the last time Sabina had ever left her house. Until today.

On May 29th, the day Sabina turned 11, she heard a knock at her door. Her mother then entered the room. It had been years since she had last seen her. Her mother still looked so kind, probably because she had the same eyes as the only person Sabina ever saw. Now, with her light brown eyes and curly, but graying, brown hair she walked in with a letter addressed to Sabina.

"What's this? She asked as she was handed the letter.

"Sabina, well, your father and I were wrong. You do possess magical powers. You have been accepted into Hogwarts," she quietly responded, looking towards the ground shamefully.

Excitement bubbled up inside Sabina, soon replaced by anger. If she had magical powers, then why was she locked up in the attic for so long? Do they realize how secluded she had been? As if her mother could read her thoughts, she said, "I know you are probably mad at me for locking you up here for two years, but I was hoping you could forgive me. I would like to have you as my apprentice."

"Apprentice?" Sabina asked angrily. "After all these years you have the nerve to ask me that? I've been up here feeling like Harry Potter while you, dad, and Isa live life like normal people. How would you reply to that question if you were in my position?", she finished with.

"I can't understand how you feel," said her mother, "but please just think it over. I want to show you how sorry I am. I will go get your trunk for you so you can pack up."

With her mother gone, Sabina went over to her desk and began gather the few belongings she was going to pack. She then plopped down on her bed, pen in hand, to write all of what happened on this wonderful day.
