They reappeared in the middle of a crowded street in London. Or, what they thought was London. The people were decked out in long robes that covered more casual wear. There were inanimate objects floating, weird smells coming from one of the stores, and people exchanging money, but not pounds, for the coins were much too large.
It was John who noticed this. When he pointed it out to James, Professor Jemude had overheard and told them the big gold coins were called 'galleons' a word all but familiar to the twins. The silver coins were 'sickles', and the small copper ones were 'knuts'.
The boys looked more closely at their surroundings, noticing all the strange things going on around them.
"Where are we?", Asked James. "It looks like London but just more, um, more..." he stopped for a moment trying to find the right word. "More magical!" He exclaimed.
Professor Jemdue responded with a slight chuckle. As the boys looked around, eyes trying to take in everything they could, Jemude led them down the crowded street towards one of the largest buildings. The name GRINGOTTS was carved into the beautiful marble above the large wooden doors. As the trio walked up the steps, two very ugly, and very short creatures-- Jemude said they were goblins-- pulled open the great oak doors for them to enter. Inside was a large room. It was beautiful, yet a bit frightening, and the twins made sure to remain close to their new professor. All around them goblins stamped and sorted papers, counted money, or stared at them suspiciously as they passed by. The group walked up to one of the desks where a particularly short goblin was counting money.
As they approached, the goblin stopped his counting and peered over the desk. "What can I help you with?", he grunted.
Professor Jemude pulled out a small, silver key and handed it to the goblin saying, "Take us to the Hogwarts savings vault, number 634."The goblin motioned for them to follow him and led them through a small gate and into a dark and cavernous space. He whistled and a cart screeched to a stop in front of them. The goblin got in, followed by Jemude and James, but John didn't move. "We'll come on," the professor said teasingly. "We haven't got all day."
"I-i've never been on a roller costar before," John said, looking into the distance and seeing all the twists and turns ahead, then looking more frightened than he had been in a longtime."It's alright. The seats are very secure. It'll be over before you know it," replied Jemude. After a few more comforting words, John reluctantly sat down next to the goblin.
"Can we go now?" asked the goblin impatiently. John nodded and gripped on the the seat as a lever was pulled and the cart bolted forward.
After many fast twists and turns, the cart came to another screeching stop, and John was the last one out of the cart. "That was awesome!" He exclaimed. "Will we get to do that again?"
"Well we have to go back to the entrance don't we?" Professor responded merrily. John's eyes lit up with excitement as the goblin led everyone to the rusty door in front of them. He made James hold the lamp for him as he inserted the small key into a hidden lock. There were a few clicks coming from behind the door, then it suddenly swung open revealing stacks of galleons, knuts, and sickles.
"Now for the fun part," says professor Jemude after he pocketed some of the coins.~~~~~
The small group easily maneuvered their way through the crowds of people on the street, entering shops to get school supplies and to experience the 'new world'. After the boys had gotten all their required supplies and their robes, Professor Jemude offered to buy them ice cream at Florean Fortescue's Ice Cream Parlour, his treat. The boys agreed without hesitation and they all went up to the counter to order.
James was walking back towards their table when he accidentally hit the arm of a young girl. She was probably the same age as him with dark brown hair and eyes. He could sense something about her, something different.
"Excuse me," she said passing by him. "Oh, yeah," he stuttered, lost in thought, "sorry for hitting your arm."
She gave him a small, awkward smile and continued walking towards the front door. He stood frozen for a moment, trying to decipher the strange feeling, and then went to meet the professor and John."Ooh who's your new girlfriend?" John teased as James sat down. "What are you talking about? I accidentally hit her arm and said I was sorry," James replied, giving his brother a slight shove. "That's not what it looked like from over here," said John.
"Whatever," James replied, "just hurry up and finish your ice cream so we can make it to the train in time. We don't want to be late." The professor gave the twins a slight nod, agreeing with James. He said "Once on the train you will both get to experience the next step in your magical life. And make sure you try the chocolate frogs, they're delicious!"Hey guys sorry that I don't post very often but I hope you are enjoying the story so far. I have a plot plan for the story, but I'm working on leading up to it.
If anyone wants me to write them into the story, comment your name, house, year and a short description if you want.
Question: What do you think of the twins? Which one do you like better so far?
