Once their parents had made sure they had everything, Sabina and Isa headed to King's Cross Station. As the family walked through the crowds, Sabina began to feel a whole new type of excitement, one filled with curiosity and the feeling of a new chapter opening in her life; a new beginning. As they neared the platform, she noticed a man in a long, lilac purple robe. He was leading two boys who looked about the same age, except one was taller then the other, through the platform. As she watched, the shorter of the two boys ran straight at the barrier, flinching when he hit wall, but instead of crashing, he suddenly disappeared. Blinking a few times to make sure she hadn't imagined it, they continued walking towards the platform.
Once they reached the platform, Sabina's mother told Isa and her father to go in first so that Sabina would understand what she needed to do and not be afraid. After they went through, Sabina's mother stopped her to ask about the apprenticeship. "I told you I'll think about it," Sabina said calmly. When she turned to enter the platform, she stopped and spun back around.
After a moment hesitation, she she said, "You know what. I'll give it a chance. I'll be your apprentice."
"Really?" Her mother asked hopefully.
"Yes, but I choose if I want to stop. You can't force me to do anything."
"Deal. Now the train won't wait, so let's go!"~~~~~
After all the goodbyes were said, Sabina and Isa stepped into the train, just as the whistle blew for the last students to get on. Isa led her to a small, empty compartment where they would be able to relax until their arrival. The train started to move, slow at first, then with gaining speed. Some people passed by the compartment looking for a seat or trying to find their friends.
One person stopped outside their door and knocked. It was Lily, one of Isa's best friends. Sabina recognized her from pictures, plus she had sent letters over the summer, and sometimes Sabina got to read them.
"Hi, I'm Lily," the girl said. "You must be Sabina. Nice to finally meet you! Isa has told me so much about you, and I can't wait to find out what house you get into." She said with a sort of crazy-excited look on her face.
"So what are you the most excited about this year?" Lily asked turning to Isa.
Isa replied, "I'm excited to see the sorting ceremony." Turning to Sabina, she said, "Once you get sorted, most of your best friends are in the house with you."
"Of course, there are exceptions," Lily added, motioning towards herself. Lily and Isa were eat friends but in different houses, Isa in Ravenclaw and Lily in Hufflepuff, so Sabina understood what she meant. The conversation continued for a while longer, going back and forth between events over the summer and what was to come during the school year. After a while, Sabina grew bored and took to looking out the window, watching the scenery flash by. The grass was a bright green, the fields open and wildflowers growing in patches near the railroad. In the distance, the mountains stood tall, majestic giants in a land of dwarves.
Sabina hadn't noticed, but at some point Lily had left their compartment, and when she returned she was with another person. The girl had dark brown hair and was hugging a book to her chest.
"This is Amber," Lily said, motioning to the girl. "She is a first year just like you," she said, "and she was sitting alone in a compartment reading, so I thought you two should meet."Lily motioned for the girl to sit down next to Sabina as she plopped herself down next to Isa.
Sabina finally understood the full meaning of what Isa had told her when describing Lily. She said, '..she can be a bit... well, overly-friendly.'
Taking that into account, Sabina offered for her and the girl, Amber, to go back to Amber's compartment. She agreed with her and they left Isa and Lily to talk. With Amber leading the way, they reached the compartment, which still had some of Amber's other items scattered on the seat.
"So..." Sabina asked as they sat down, "I see you've met my sister's best friend." She said with a smirk. "Sorry about her 'pushiness'".
Amber replied "No worries. Let's just start over. Hi, I'm Amber. Half-blood,first year." Amber held out her hand to Sabina. "I'm Sabina. Pure-blood, first year," she said, shaking Ambers hand. "Nice to meet you."~~~~~
The ride went by, and the girls began talking about their family, Hogwarts, and things they were most excited to experience. Amber hopes to be in Ravenclaw. She loves to learn and the book she was holding was actually her first spell book, given to her by her mom.
Sabina told of fun times she had with Isa and how they would always hang out in the attic, but she didn't tell of her sad past and abandonment.
Time passed much quicker having made a new friend, and darkness fell quickly, the bright stars and full moon lighting the train's path. The train slowed as it entered another dense forest.
"We must be getting close," Amber said, noticing their decrease in speed. Just as she said these words the train emerged from the trees and went into a small town. There were a few people still milling around or shopping, and some waiting to wave at the children on the train. Excitement began to build up inside Sabina. We're almost there! I finally get to be somewhere I can belong!
Through the window there it was, Hogwarts, shining with a white glow from the stars, and a magical feeling surrounding the whole train. Finally, I'm home.
Hey guys! I hope you enjoyed this chapter! I really loved writing it, and now two of the main characters have met and become friends. I will try to continue posting as soon as I can, but school has been burdening me with big tests.
If you would like a character, I will do my best to incorporate you into the story. Please tell me your name, house, year, and a short description of your character.
Question: What house do you think Sabina will/should be in?
Until next time!
