"You don't mean anything to me".

The words that were circling around in her mind; a never ending nightmare. A disaster taking her world by storm; shattering her emotions and in the process, destroying her heart.

She'd never done anything to deserve a life like this. She'd always been a good child, helping out her parents when she could. Even helping the neighbors, teachers and local business owners when they needed it.

She'd always been good at school, earning extra credit when she could and spent the majority of her time studying. But for what? A lie disguised as a life.

She wasn't one of the cool kids but she was never one of the losers either. She was just unnoticed. She minded her own business and never, not once fought with anybody.

So why? Why was her life reduced to this? She'd heard about karma but what had she done to deserve such a fate? There was no reasoning behind it; just the harsh, cruel reality of the world.

Love made you do stupid, stupid things. That was her reality. And she was a victim of love too. Her heart had made her destroy her world.

Andy. Her so called boyfriend. Her betrayer. He wanted money, money that she didn't have. Money that cost her freedom. Money that he took and didn't bother turning back around.

Now she was degraded to the Godfather's daughter in law. Engaged to a man she didn't know. Engaged to a murderer. Engaged to a man of the Mafia. Engaged to the man she was in debt to.

Officially married in four months and she'd only seen what he looked like when he was four and eleven. Officially married in four months and the only thing she knew about him was that he was a monster; very reassuring.

Treated as an object, flaunted around, wearing only designer. Her cheap but sentimental things disregarded. Her life burnt to the ground because of a simple, innocent mistake.

"Alicia! Focus", I heard a voice in the background resulting in me tumbling out of my thoughts.

"Yes, yes! I'm listening!", I snapped. I had enough on my plate without my so called sister in law trying to turn me into some barbie doll.

"It sounds like you don't want to make a good impression on my brother. You're getting married to him, you should at least try to impress him."

"Your brother is a cold-hearted murderer. I could never like him even if I tried to."

"You don't have to be so harsh you know, you have no idea what he has been through", she whispered as she walked away, destroyed.

Ever since my life went down the drain, my mouth has become explosive. I say things I don't mean because well, who am I to judge?

Thea is an amazing woman. She's been through every type of heartbreak and betrayal so she understands exactly what I'm going through. But I just can't seem to let anybody in; I'm in fear of being betrayed again.

Jack Bateman. My fiancee. He's coming home today. After being away for 7 months in Russia, he's coming home. He's coming home to marry me.

After getting married to him, I'm meant to become his. No mind of my own because he will control me. What choice do I have but to marry him? Being $200,000 in debt leaves you hopeless and in these kinds of situations.

There are only three conditions of this marriage. We must produce a heir, we mustn't divorce and I'm forbidden to contact my previous friends.

They also made it very clear that if I was to contact Andy, I would stop breathing. Maybe I should call him because then I would be granted freedom from my forced marriage.

"Alicia, are you here?", I heard a voice shouting from downstairs.

"What's wrong?", I shouted whilst running down the stairs which strictly I wasn't allowed to do because 'it was a risk to my health'.

"Nothing at all darling", I've been asked to prepare for Jack's arrival", Amy, the girl who was assigned to me, informed me.

"Right, erm well we'll go straight up to my room then", I said as I followed her upstairs.

"Yes, let us do that! I'm so excited, I've brought lots of makeup and jewellery so we can dress you up!"

"Hmm really? I don't think I'll be wearing a lot...", I whispered.

"Hey, are you okay? I know you don't want to meet him but you get to wear an Louis Vuitton dress, that's got to be a plus, right?", she laughed whilst instantly lifting my spirits.

"You're right, I've just got to stop being such a bum about this!"

......................................................

"There's lipstick on your collar,

You say she's just a friend now,

Then why don't we call her?

So you wanna go home with someone and do all the things you used to do to me,

I swear I know you do..."

The music Amy listened to was truly depressing. It reminded me of the future I was in store for. My 'cousin in law' had already warned me, if I didn't kill myself now, I would be enjoying having my heart stamped on.

She said her cousin's habits would never change and he would always enjoy his cheap whores. I hoped for some respect in this marriage but it was clearly never going to happen.

"Aliciaaaaa! You look beautiful, OMG!", Thea screeched whilst she walked in.

"Thanks but I wanted to say sorry for before, I had no right".

"Eugh forget that, just look at yourself in the mirror", she said as she led me to the mirror.

Wow.

I looked hot.

I was wearing a Louis Vuitton floor length, pitch black ball gown. The sheer black sleeves were full length and there was a plunging neckline. I was wearing a pair of statement Louboutins.

My hair was curled and Amy had achieved an amazing black smoky eyeshadow look with a dark red lipstick. She'd managed to convince me to wear false nails too and boy did they look good!

The poor girl even made me wear lacy lingerie in hopes that I would sleep with Jack. I'd never met him before, how did she expect me to simply just have sex with him?

"You'll definitely become Alicia Bateman in no time", Thea giggled.

"I think I prefer Alicia Jackson for now".

"That'll soon change babe", Amy giggled as she walked in.

Then we all heard a loud, hearty laugh. A laugh that was completely unforgettable yet somewhat unknown.

"Tell the cooks to bring out the food and snacks! Switch the music on and call the girls downstairs. Invite the neighboring families over! We're having a party, my son's home!", my father-in-law shouted.

"Oh crap..", I nervously chuckled.

"It'll be okay, he's a wonderful person", Thea assured me as she directed me towards the stairs.
