A design of Casey (by marshmallo).
A design of Martha (also by marshmallo).
Martha soon tells me the news. Jake was found dead the day after his picture got tacked too. I shake Martha by the shoulders. "WHAT COULD THIS MEAN??!!"
She looks at me calmly. I sigh in my mind. Calm, rational Martha. "Casey, it's probably just a coincidence." I can tell she's lying from the nervous look in her eyes. I am still hurting from Mae's death. Even though I didn't like Jake, I wouldn't wish this for him. My mind is spinning.
"Casey?" My green eyes flickered around nervously. My heart skipped a beat when I saw another tacked picture: our homeroom teacher, Ms. Price. It was pinned right to her heart. I tried to yank it out, but it was stuck. I almost sobbed. In class, Ms. Price explained to us that there would be a sub for the next two weeks, as she was traveling to El Salvador for missionary work. I was somewhat relieved. Maybe the murderer wouldn't get her this way. I went to bed and slept easily that night.
In the morning, I came to school. Martha and I walked into the classroom. The substitute walked in from behind us. "Oh hello, girls! I'm your substitute, Miss Julie! What are your....AAAAHHH!" Miss Julie pointed at the chalkboard, her finger trembling. Ms. Price was pinned against the chalkboard, a knife in each hand, each foot, and, oh gosh....her neck. Her blood was dry and splattered everywhere. My body shook wildly and tears blurred my vision. In moments, the floor came rushing at my face and everything went black.
