As I leave my small apartment, I lock the door behind me. My Fiery red hair flowing in the winter wind. “I hate winter.” I mutter under my breath. With my words a cloud comes from between my rosy lips. I start my long trip to my job.
I work in a self-owned bakery called, Celeste’s Hot Treats, where I normally sell hot cocoa, croissants (freshly baked), and other warm goodies. The reason for choosing these types of treats was because I live in New York, where it’s mostly cold, and barely warm. I unlock the front entrance, and flip the closed sign, to open.
The minute I put on my apron, and stand behind the counter, people come rushing in. I work quickly to serve the customers. “I’m here!” A high-pitched voice comes from the back of the bakery. I sigh in relief as I notice it’s the only other employee, Kelsey. “Good morning Kelsey! Give me a hand here.” I greet, tying the blue ribbon on the box of warm cookies of my client.
“Have a nice day!” I say as the person wave’s goodbye.
After the morning rush, there are only about four other people in the shop. A woman with blonde hair, and her two year old daughter. Two guys talking about last night’s game in the back, making a huge noise.
I lean over the counter, my elbows supporting my weight, and start to day dream. What ifs, start running through my mind. What if I never left Nebraska? What if I had continued my college education? What if I never came to New York?
“Cel?” I hear my named being called from behind me. I turn around. I spot Kelsey leaning on the door frame, where the register area meets the kitchen area. “Yes, Kelsey?” I ask politely. “You should go.”
“I’ll take care of the shop.” She added. I lifted my eyebrows. Kelsey was a good friend of mine, ever since I moved into New York. She supported me through thick and thin, and helped me buy this place. I could only repay her by hiring her, so that’s what I did. But lately I’ve been wanting to visit my mum in Nebraska, and I’ve shared my thoughts with Kelsey.
I walked up to Kelsey and hugged her. “Thank you, for everything.” I said to her. She smiled and waved me off. I laughed and took off my apron to hang by the back door. I bid goodbye and walked home.
I had enough money saved up to buy a plane ticket to go to Nebraska and back, so I called the agency and booked the first plane there. When I ended the call, I began packing my stuff. When I was sure I wasn’t forgetting anything, I slipped my flip phone into my pocket and got in the taxi.
With one last look at my apartment, and a short glance at my passing Bakery, I whispered good bye to my New York City.
What I did not expect was to find out the unwanted truth, of my entire existence.
So how bout it guys? Ya like? Leave comments, vote, share, etc.
I’ve been thinking, and I would like to know, do you think the picture suits Celeste? Or if not give me your opinions I NEED TO KNOW!!!!
Luv ya,
