Beauty and the Beast

Chapter 2

It had been a whole month since the incident and the book was neither returned or repossessed to Hazel. Marcus began to worry if he could even remember the girl's face. One day at lunch, Marcus thought he saw her, so he ran, but before he could catch up to her, she stepped into a classroom. She might not even have the same lunch as me, Marcus pondered. But indeed Hazel did, what Marcus had no clue of was that she would always spend her lunch with Mrs. Fernandez in room 415 with her friends. That was when she could truly be herself.

Marcus peeked through the window of the door cautiously, making sure they didn't catch him. He didn't know who this teacher was, but when he looked through the window, he saw a girl laughing and she had the biggest smile in the world. She looked so beautiful to Marcus that he was caught in a daze and forgot he was trying to not get caught. Taking advantage of the moment, Marcus looked into the girl's eyes. She was the absolutely, positively, and definitely the girl. Before he had a chance to open the door and give her the book, he was tapped on the shoulder by Aiden.

"Are you stalking that Geek girl or what?"

"Shut up, she's beautiful and I believe she drew these amazing drawings." One by one he showed Aiden the drawings.

"Those are amazing, but I don't think an ugly Geek like her could have this much talent."

"You're so dumb, you wouldn't be able to see the most beautiful thing if it slapped you in the face."

"C'mon dude, stop looking at that and turn over there." Aiden pointed to the most popular girl in the whole school, Yrene.

"Dude, you know I'm not into her."

"But she's into you dude. And that says something because she only likes really hot people."

"Yeah but I don't like her. She may be pretty on the outside, but she's a demon on the inside for sure."

"Whatever man, let's just get out of here."

"FIne, only because I have to eat my lunch."

The day was about to end. Ten minutes were left of seventh period. Hazel was in the tutoring class, she was, of course, the tutor. Meanwhile, Marcus went to soccer class. The final announcements came on Hey, it's Mary, Jerry, and Isabella telling you one final thing; If you are interested in acting and can sing, go to the Beauty and the Beast auditions after school today. Auditions will be held in the MPR from 2 to 4:30pm. Be sure to try your best! Hope you guys had a great day!

Hazel was sure to try out, she loved the theatre and, although she didn't have the best voice, she was okay at singing. She wondered who else was trying out. Belle had always been Hazel's favorite princess, so she was psyched to be in that production.

BRRRRRRIIIIIINNNNNNNNNNGGG! The bell rang, everyone rushed out of class.

To Hazel's surprise, very few people showed up at the auditions, but she saw someone who she wasn't pleased to see. Aiden was there, and so was his friend who bumped into her the past month. At first Hazel thought Marcus was nice, but now she knows better than to assume a cute guy like him would be nice. He hangs out with that jerk, so he himself is probably a jerk too, Hazel thought to herself

It's the girl! I can finally give her the book and get her name. Maybe I'll get lucky and score her number! Marcus was thinking to himself. Walking casually to the girl, Marcus felt a gust of confidence hit him, not that he really needed one, but again someone interrupted him, although, this time it was not Aiden.

"Hello you fellow scholars, I am Mr. Ramirez. Good luck to you all auditioning. Let me tell you one thing though, everyone here will get a part, so do not worry. Considering this, I hope you all will still try your best. Actually I urge you guys to try your best. I want you guys to form 10 lines for me. Here are the 10 main parts, people who do not qualify for these parts will play minor parts. Understood? Okay, so here all the lines in order: Belle, the Beast, Gaston, Lefou, Lumiere, Cogsworth, Mrs. Potts, Chip, Maurice, and Belle's dad. Considering we have about 50 people here, take or give a few, 20 of you will get a main part due to double casting, the other 30 will be in the background as villagers and more. One last thing, you are required to audition on stage, IN FRONT OF EVERYONE! Hope you guys break a leg!"

"In front of everyone... Ellie, I don't think I can do this!"

"It's okay Hazel, just pretend no one is here. I know you can do this. I've known you for 7 years and have seen you act so many times before, you'll be alright."

"Oh you really think so, well I hope so. Thanks for believing in me Ellie, you're the best friend I could ask for. Who are you trying out for? With that voice of yours, you could be Belle."

"No, I'm okay, I want you to get Belle for sure. I'm more into singing the real Beauty and the Beast song, so I'm aiming for the part of Mrs. Potts."

"Are you sure?"

"Yeah I love that song!"

"Okay, bye, I need to get to my line, I know you'll do great."

During Hazel and Ellie's talk, Marcus and Aiden were talking as well.

"Who are you trying out for Marcus?"

"The Beast. I don't think I'll get the part. I can't even sing."

"You can sing. Trust me, I've known you since we were 5, I know you like the back of my hand. You can sing. Anyways, I'm going for Gaston because unlike you, I can't sing. And I bet Gaston doesn't have to sing during the whole play. All he has to do is stand there and look good, which is my best talent."

Both Marcus and Aiden roared into a laughter.

Auditions began and first up were the people auditioning for Belle. Luckily Hazel wasn't the first one in line, she was actually the last one in line due to her conversation with Ellie. Everyone was provided with a script, well at least one little part of the script where there character speaks. The monologue wasn't too long, and they got to pick what song from the movie they wanted to sing. Only a little part was provided and the boys could choose a different song provided by Mr. Ramirez.

Girl after girl after girl left the stage and waited patiently for everyone else to go so they could get the results. Only 5 more girls were in front of Hazel, she grew worried because some people did awfully good. Fifteen minutes passed, Hazel had to take the stage now. She saw everyone staring at her and panicked, but then she remembered what Ellie told her.

"Oh please let my father go, I'll do anything. He's awfully old and can't survive in this place alone. I'll make you a trade, how about that..." A small pause was presented. "Come out to the light so I can see you. I'll do it, let my father go, and I will willingly stay here with you." That was scene. Without knowing it, Hazel had done tremendously great. Next came the singing. Hazel started singing, she did not have the best voice, but what impressed the director was that she acted out every part she sang. At the end, as Hazel was exiting off stage, she heard someone applaud and cheer, other than Ellie. Pausing in the middle of her exit, she turned to look at the person, and to her surprise it was Marcus, he wasn't that much of a jerk after all was he?!

Many other people were at the auditions, but there weren't very many boys, so Marcus was third in line for the part of the Beast. Only 5 people tried out for that part. Marcus's audition was stunning, not only did he have the looks, but he had the voice of an angle. Everyone was sure he got the part. Next, Hazel watched Aiden perform, he could act, especially the part of a jerk, but he could sing as good as a chicken, no offense to him. The next time everyone started cheering was when Ellie took the stage with the voice of hers. Although her voice was outstanding, she didn't have the great acting skills as did Hazel. Never mind that, 4 o'clock came by quick and the last of the people auditioned. At 4:15 pm, everyone was done performing. The results were to be announced.
