Screams erupt from a familiar voice and my eyes strike up, Ag-lea's loud sobs come out in gasps beside Cassandras body.
"I can explain this..Ag-lea please...just let me ex-" she cuts me off. I look at her, my eyes pleading for forgiveness, sympathy...anything.
"Chance. You have killed my friends..you have made me a bad person and now I want nothing to do with you" she says. I open my mouth to say something but close it immediately, Ag-lea was making a very bad choice..."You really wanna go on this mission...by yourself." I ask.
"If it means getting away from you, then yes!" she screams. I shut my eyes and raise my hands then swing them back down abruptly, Ag-lea falls down gasping for air "what did you do!?" she yelled. "I did exactly what you wanted...I am letting you go on the mission by your self. That loss of strength was me regaining my powers. See the thing was, you didn't let me explain. Casandra was actually one of the people who helped kill your family. Since you had the honor of screaming at me and telling me you want to be on your own then that is when I get the honor of gaining my powers back!"
"What do you mean get your powers back?.." She replies. I laugh. "I gave some of my magic to you...to protect you...and now I have it back which means your REALLY on your own now" I tell her. I can hear her begging me not to leave and to put the magic back but it was too late, I turned around and walked out of the woods. Leaving the person I cared for most to take care of herself.
The truth was, I took my magic back...but not all of it. I left enough to keep her protected for a couple days. It hurt to walk away from her like that..leaving her defenseless, but she deserved it. She wouldn't let me explain, that's all I wanted..
At this point I was broken, I lied on the cold concrete ground with tears streaming down my face looking at the stars...that's when a memory came back to me..
"Mother, look at the stars" my 4 year old body said pointing at the bright yellow objects held tightly in the sky.
My beautiful mother smiled, "They are lovely my dearest Chance, would you like to know a secret about there beauty?" she says in her soft and caring voice. I nod.
"There not up there just to be pretty, they have more elegance than that..they are like a picture" she whispers. I look at her in a confused manner, she laughs "They all make up an image..the image is always something that you need to know.." she says. I look up at the sky "I don't see an image mother" I giggle. She grins "well of course not love, you only see the image when you need help..when your in need of a 'clue' or inspiration" she states. "That's why they are beautiful.. because they help you. Not because they appear with beauty"
My mothers voice fades away as the stars seem to move until it they stop in the image of a box with crystals embedded in the knob. I slightly squint when I feel a wave of recolonization wash over me...that's when it hits me harder than anything before. I know that box. Its my mothers jewelry box...and I remember her burying it in the background for what she stated was "a thing that needed to be done"
Could that be the box with the key..?
Could that be the box with all the answers to my questions??
I tried to look a little more closely but the stars began to move again, they stopped and a picture of a girl formed...Ag-lea.
Ag-lea was on her way to get the box.. the stars moved quickly...they spelled out a word in letters..
D-A-N-G-E-R
My mouth came agape, the men that Cassandra said were left. Ag-lea doesn't know!! I shuffled up quickly and began to run as fast as I could to Ag-leas aid. Tree's came into my view and then out of sight in seconds, wind blew at my face until it felt like shards of glass inflicting my skin. The pain was unbearable.. I continued running, screams of pain escaping my mouth on occasion. Each time I passed by a human they gasped at me but I didn't even care the slightest bit. My arms went back and forth as my long legs picked up speed until It felt like I was in a different world. By this time I was panting uncontrollably and beginning to slow my pace. The house was only another couple blocks so I took a break, in which I sat down on the curb and rocked back and forth trying to regain my breaths.
It was relaxing but it wouldn't be long before Ag-lea was put into danger..I couldn't just sit here and relax while she could be walking into a trap. I stood up and took a deep breath as my legs began spark like a flame. They ran as fast as they could until I made them come to a halt when I stood inches from the front door..I scanned over the green house with a tall wooden roof, a large front porch made of oak..and the same engraving I left 17 years ago..
I walked up to the front door and reached for the door knob which to my surprise was already unlocked. I shrugged my shoulders not thinking much of it, it could have been an accident..the door creaked open and revealed a large living room, barren. I took a step in and left the rest of my body to decide if it was ready to continue.
I inched my way farther only to find myself going in the direction of my old bedroom.
I walked in,
my breaths became hitched in my throat and I began to sob. Tears of anger and sadness flew down my cheeks as I ran to the small, fragile body laid out on the floor.I shook the body and screamed
"WAKE UP! WAKE UP! PLEASE! PLEASE DON'T LEAVE ME..PLEASE! I BEG OF YOU JUST WAKE UP!"
But it was done. There was nothing left that I could do.
"I'M SORRY AG-LEA!"
"I'M SO SORRY!"
I laid helplessly beside the small girl I failed to protect..
