The day had been long. I had three tests, loads of homework to turn in, and on top of that, I had to steal a sweatshirt from Archie because somebody spilled some type of red juice all over the shirt I was wearing. I was tired- mentally and physically- and just ready to go home. So naturally, in my exhausted state, my reaction to Veronica asking me if I was ready for tonight was, "What's tonight?"
She furrows her eyebrows at me. "We made plans for tonight. Don't you remember?"

The truth was, I didn't. I honestly had to clue as to what she was talking about. But instead of telling her that, I said, "Umm, yeah. That thing we were gonna do."
Looking hurt, she responds, *** "I can't believe you didn't remember." ***

I reach out for her hand. "Hey, V-"
"No, don't worry about it," she says, backing up. "I'll see you later."

And with that, she turns around and walks away, leaving me alone to remember what I'd forgotten.

About an hour later, I'm standing in front of her door- a bag of takeout from Pop's in one hand, and a bag full of candy from the grocery store in the other. Being careful as to not drop anything, I raise my hand to knock on the door. A few seconds later, Veronica answers, changed out of her school attire into something more comfortable.
"Y/N," she says, avoiding my eyes. "What are you doing here?"

I let out a breath before I start. "I'm really sorry I forgot our plans earlier. I was exhausted and couldn't focus on anything, but I remembered. That new TV show is airing tonight, the one that we were gonna start watching together."

She sighs and nods. "Glad to hear it. Maybe some other time," she mumbles, starting to close the door.
"Veronica, wait," I stop her. "I said sorry," I say, giving her puppy-dog eyes. "Please forgive me."
She groans. "Stop with the eyes, you know I hate that," she says. When I don't stop, she laughs and says, *** "I could beat you up, you know that right?" ***
"Yes," I tell her, "but do you really want to beat up the person who brought you food as an apology gift?"
She seems to consider this. After a moment, she points at one of the bags I'm holding and she asks, "Are there fries in there?"

I laugh. "Pop's takeout in this one," I say, raising one of the bags, "and candy and other junk food in this one," I say, raising the other one.
She laughs. "Then I guess you're allowed in," she tells me, opening the door. I follow her into her kitchen and put the bags down on the counter. Then I walk over to Veronica, and wrap my arms around her waist, burying my face in her hair.

"Thanks for letting me in," I mumble as she hugs me back.
I can feel the vibrations as she laughs and says, "Well, you did bring food. So I guess you're not a completely terrible girlfriend."

I just laugh as we break the hug, walking back into her kitchen. "Speaking of which, we should probably eat that before it gets cold."
