Instead of being late like Evander and Lily where before; they arrived half an hour before the show started.

“Want something to eat?” Evander asked Lily as they entered the hall.

“Sure. Chips will be fine,” Lily replied and Evander walked over to a burger van that was parked inside near the entrance to cater for the event.

“Can I have 2 packets of chips please,” Evander told the man who turned around to serve the food.

While the man was doing this, Evander leaned onto the van. Suddenly, the van began to tip over and then landed with a crash to the carpeted floor. Everyone rushed over when suddenly, a frying pan caught fire which then lit the carpet.

People screamed and ran for the turnstile doors. Evander braved the flames and tried to get the man out of the van. Evander dragged him out and looked at him for a few seconds. The man’s face was blackened flesh and so were his arms. He checked for a pulse and could only feel a weak slow one. Panicking, he picked up the man that was almost double his size and instead of trying to get out of the packed turnstile doors he ran back through the stage and went backstage to find a back entrance.

The fire had quickly spread through the entrance and was now licking the edge of the stage. Evander coughed and spluttered and raced down the corridor to the fire exit. The flames climbed the walls and were now clawing at the electrics. Evander burst through the door and the building behind him exploded and he fell to the ground protecting the barely alive man. Debris hit his head and legs though he didn’t move. Evander didn’t want him to die. He was the cause of the fire.

He heard the faint sound of sirens in the distance and then heard the whooshing of water shooting out of the hose and then the flames becoming weaker then dying out. Paramedics rushed over to them and picked up the unconscious man and Evander stumbled to his feet.

“Lily! Where’s Lily?” Panic ran through his mind and he began to tear himself away from the paramedic and ran over to the front of the building. He looked around and saw Ty and his family and that calmed me down a bit, however my heart still race. He scanned the area again; ignoring the calls from the other ambulance people and suddenly spotted a brunette girl lying on the floor with a group of medics around her.

“Oh no! Lily god no,” he cried as they carried her away into an ambulance.

“Sir. Do you want to ride down to the hospital with us?” One of them asked and he nodded and leapt into the ambulance.

“How is she?” Evander asked.

“Well, it seems that she was crushed by the amount of people that were trying to get out of the front doors. She’s still alive we don’t know how badly she has been hurt. We fear she could – at worst – be in a vegitive state or lost her memoring or other abilities like talking and walking,”

Evander was in shock. He was shaking and looking at her body in a huge pool of guilt.

It’s all my fault.

Everything is my fault.

They rushed Lily into surgery and lead Evander into a cubicle to stitch up his cuts. While the doctor was examining a cut on his arm he noticed Lily’s parents crying while a doctor in scrubs talked to them. His heart began to race and he jumped up off the bed, running to the doctor.

“What’s happened? What?” he worriedly said.

“I’m sorry that information is confidential unless you are family,”

“Come here, lets sit down and talk,” Lily’s dad Andrew said soothingly as he led Evander back to his cubicle.

After getting stitched up, Andrew led him to the relatives room where her mother Harriet was crying in the corner.

“What’s happened?”

“Well it seems that Lily has uhm received a lot of brain damage and uhm they think she’ll be in a uhm vege… I’m sorry can you excuse me,” Andrew’s voice cracked and he went into the toilet and we could hear him crying.

“I’m so sorry,” Evander said crying.

Harriet ignored him and continued to cry even harder than before.

He left the room and went outside for some air. He paced back and forth; ignoring the odd stares from other people passing. Evander cried and cried.

He knew it was all his fault.

He thought he didn’t deserve life.

He thought if she couldn’t live why should he live with all this guilt?

He knew he would die.

But not at the hands of the drunken stranger like before.

A few hours later, they allowed Evander and Lily’s parents to visit her. Andrew and Harriet had an hour with their daughter before Harriet fell asleep and Andrew carried her back to their car; leaving Evander to do his deed.

Lily lay peacefully in her bed, her hair spread out over her pillow. Her eyes were closed and you wouldn’t know she was alive if it wasn’t for the steady beep of her heart machine.

“Lily, I’m so sorry. I never meant for any of this to happen. Today was supposed to be perfect. I cause this and I cannot live with this guilt dragging me down but I need to confess.”

“I love you. I have loved you from the start. I love your laugh and the way you joke. I love you smile and how you beautiful eyes shine. I love you hair and how you hate it but you don’t understand how beautiful it is. I love you personality and how you are optimistic. I love how you dance ridiculously in the car when a good song comes on. I love how you think that there is good in anyone. I love your British accent. I love when you confuse me with some odd saying. I love how you apply make-up in the car window and how you yell if I go over a bump to fast making your lipstick go all over you cheek. I love how you keep a diary and keep all your secrets in there. I love how you think that you aren’t beautiful when you are the most beautiful person in the world. I love you. I love you. I loved you, no. I love you and always will. I love you with all my heart.” Evander cried and then leaned forward to her.

He then gently placed his lips upon hers for a few seconds before running out crying.

Evander ran to a small dark alleyway, like the one he had died in the night before. Evander searched around for a sharp rock. He eventually found a rough sharp stone that was about the size of his hand. Evander did not feel guilty because of what he was about to do. He should have this afternoon and the guilt would make his life not worth living.

“I love you with all my heart,” Evander whispered and then impaled himself with the stone.

Tears dripped down his face and he fell to the ground. Blood flowed out of himself and his life was deteriorating quickly.

A nearby clock struck 12 and no-one came. He peacefully took his final breath and thought.

I love you
