"Thomas Smith!"
The plump woman called out. Thomas looked at Yverline with a sad smile as he unhooked his arm from hers. Yverline watched as her friend walked up to and sat on the stool in front of the hall. They were the only two ones left.

He plopped onto the seat, and the hat was dropped onto his head. It covered half of his face as he waited in anticipation.

After a moment or two, the hat had made up its mind.

"SLYTHERIN!" It called out.

The slytherin table cheered and clapped as their new member trotted over to them, his eyes and smile on Yverline the whole time.

"Yverline Warlocke." The plump woman encouraged the timid girl up.

Walking towards the stool seemed to take achingly long, even though she was walking as fast as she could.
Upon reaching the stool, she tripped on the stair before it and was just caught by the plump woman. She offered a kind smile and Yverline chuckled nervously.
She sat upon the stool, and the hat was placed on her head, falling over her eyes.

Interestingly enough, all the noise outside of the hat was blocked off.

Let's see, let's see. Ahh a muggle born eh?

Yverline was startled. The hat was speaking to her?

Hmm. Very peculiar. You want to be in Slytherin do you?

Yes.

Hmm. It wouldn't suit you though, would it? No it wouldn't.
AHH but what's this? You're also hoping to get into Ravenclaw? But by no desire of your own. No, you want to impress your mother.

Yverline blushed in guilt.

Hmm, you do have some bravery in your heart.
But also a good amount of kindness.

I think I know where you should go.

"HUFFLEPUFF!" It cried out.

Yverline's heart sank.

______

Yverline would have enjoyed the feast, had she not been upset about her house.

"Hey it's alright, despite what the others say about hufflepuff, it's not just for leftover people."
An older student attempted to comfort her.
Yverline nodded her head, despite that not being the reason she was upset. She was alone again, her friends and her seperated by a table.

Thomas waved at her, over the heads of the ravenclaws, having to stand on his seat to do so.
Yverline smiled and stood on her seat to wave back.
She couldn't understand why it made her so happy so quickly to see Thomas waving at her.

Thomas grinned, and was pulled down by the person sitting by him.

Likewise, Yverline was gently pulled down by a fifth year next to her. Though it seemed to make everyone else at her table just as happy as Yverline to see Thomas waving at her.

The headmistress walked up to the podium just then, her face seemed to mostly be made of wrinkles, but her eyes held a sparkle of youth.

"Thank you all for greeting the first years so amiably. First years, it's a pleasure to have you joining us this year. If you have any questions, ask either the prefects-" two people stood up at each table to signify their rank, "or the head of your house. Petuna-" the plump woman who had been helping earlier raised her hand,
"the Gryffindor head. Burt-" a man with glasses seemingly too big for his face and a balding head stood,
"the Ravenclaw head. Slughorn-" a plump man with a balding head raised a hand. "The slytherin head. And Lovid-" a small woman with a captivating gaze stood,
"the hufflepuff head." The headmaster adjusted her square glasses, "for any other matters, regarding other teachers or students, you may come to me." She waved her hand and the food disappeared. "You may go to bed now." And with that, the hall exploded at once with voices, as each house stood from their seats and headed towards the door.
Yverline followed her fellow first years, hoping to catch Thomas before they went to bed.

Unfortunatly, she was only able to catch a quick glance before they were each directed opposite ways. Yverline craned her head towards the slytherins the whole time that they were in view.

"Hey." Yverline jumped as someone spoke in her ear.
"I'm Radigash." A boy with red-orange hair offered his hand.

"I'm Yverline." She took the boys hand and shook it.

"Cool. You can call me Rad, Radigash is a bit long. So uh, What kind of pet did you bring?" He asked as they climbed a staircase.

"My mum wouldn't let me get one." Yverline told him, "said I needed to focus on studying."
She looked at Rad, "what'd you get?"

"I got a barn owl. He's probably in the owlery. He's really great, he looks like batman. He brings my mail really fast too." he looked up thoughtfully, "you know of you got an owl it would probably be ok. They're really low maintenance." He looked over at Yverline.

"They get their own food and everything." He continued, smiling real wide and showing all of his teeth at once.

Yverline smiled an nodded back, knowing that her mum wouldn't ever go for that.

"So what are excited to study this year?" He looked at her with wide, expectant eyes.

"Oh, I don't know. My mom is a mug- muc- muf- I can't remeber what it's called." Yverline frowned.

"Muggle?" Rad offered.

"Yeah. So I don't really know what to expect. I suppose I'll find out what I'm excited to study when I get to class." Yverline looked down at her feet as the ascended another set of stairs.

"Oh ok." Rad waited a moment before speaking again, "I'm excited about care of magical creatures! I heard they have a hyppogriff, and that there might even be a regular old gryffin! Did you know that hyppogriffs are part horse, but gryffins are part lion? I've always wondered if there could be a gryffin that was part dog, or maybe even deer. Wouldn't that be amazing?" Rad excitedly gestured with his hands as he continued on about creatures, almost whacking those in close proximity.

Yverline smiled at the boy's excitement, getting almost as excited as he was about creatures just from listening to him talking about them.

They arrived at a corridor, walking past many portraits of still life, and coming to three barrels. The prefect knocked a beat on one of the barrels, which caused the barrel to open and reveal a passage way sloping upwards.

They climbed up the slope to a round and cozy room, filled with couches and cushions of all sizes, as well as wooden tables with a soft brown colour. There were plants covering the walls, some of which were low enough to brush some of the taller students hair. The plants seemed to dance and wave at the first years.

The room was decorated with many bright colours, and a portrait was hanging just above the mantle price, portraying a plump woman with a kind face, raising a glass to her students.

There were small, round, windows, showing the grass and dandelions just outside. The doors to all the dormitories were round as well.

Overall it was more a comforting place than Yverline's home was.

She couldn't understand why she was so nervous earlier.

"Alright, first year girls, to the right, boys to the left." The prefects said.

Yverline bid goodnight to her friend Rad, and entered the decorated room of the girls dormitory. It had flowers and banners all across the walls and ceilings.

Yverline walked to the bed with her trunk on the end and climbed into it, only bothering to take her shoes off.

She slept surprisingly peacefully
