"What's wrong?"

I came up behind him and sat beside him on the bed.

"Linds, I know it's been a long time coming but...I think need to go."

"What do you mean?"

"I've been thinking about it for a while, but I need to get out of this place. It's held nothing but pain for me, but...there's one silver lining."

He looked up and over at me.

"Where are you going to go?"

"I want to try and make it to California. It's where everyone goes for hopeless dreams, so I figure it'll be a good fit for me."

"So you're just going to up and go?"

"Well I was wondering...after we're out of school and everything, diploma and all, do you want to head out with me? We can just...run off as cheesy as it is."

I smiled softly before resting my head on his shoulder.

"That sounds nice."

"We can just be reckless teenagers in a city of hopeless dreams, making it work. There's something charming about it even if we end up in some shitty apartment, we'd be together."

"I like it."

"I figure if we're gonna head out, then I'm gonna take my chance to be a poetic little shithead."

We both laughed a little and I couldn't help but smile at our little plan. Just the two of us chasing whatever's out there together. Making it work. And I couldn't wait.
