She began her new life, waking up in a coffin, and having to claw her way out through layers of wood and dirt. Traumitized by this sudden awakening, Buffy Summers believed she was brought into hell. Not Sunnydale, but Hell.
I think I was in Heaven. I was torn out of there, by my friends.
When she sacrificed herself for her sister, Dawn, she died and awakened in a peaceful place. For 5 months, Buffy Summers was happy, calm, and she didn't have to worry about the Hellmouth, her sister, her friends, her watcher, because she believed they were safe, they didn't need her now that she saved the world - again - and they could live without her. Until that momentary awakening, in her coffin, in hell.
But they did need her, since Willow decided to tear her out of there, out of where she was, and brought her to Hell. If only Willow could see where Buffy was, what she was feeling, she wouldn't have brought her back. Buffy was angry, angry and confused. Angry because her friends brought her back. She didn't want to be back but -
Dawn
Was Dawn okay?
"Dawnie?" the words escaped from her lips, in a small whisper, her voice sounded hoarse, her throat was dry. Where was Dawn? Did Spike take care of her? Did William-the-bloody do what he promised? Did he protect Dawnie and care for her?
Buffy shook her head and buried it in her hands, so she wouldn't have to see. She sank to the ground. She couldn't give in to this place, she had to remember what her friends did, where she was. She shouldn't be happy... in Hell. This was Hell, the place people feared to go after they died, where people went when they were expelled from Heaven. Screams and cries echo in the night, screams and cries of ghosts, voilence everywhere, burning houses, broken hearts. The place of pain. Not a place to be happy. A place to be miserable and hope that God will open up the gates again to Heaven.
Her heart was beating, she noticed. But wasn't she supposed to be dead? Something was wrong. No, she was wrong. Something was wrong with her. She came back wrong. Her breathing began to speed up, her heart beated 10x faster, she felt dizzy, confused. She shut her eyes, afraid that if she opened them she'd see the face of the Devil, laughing at her, and ready to punish her, telling her that she's wrong, that she came back wrong, that she shouldn't be here.
She managed to calm herself by counting to 100 in her head. She repeated some number though, but that was by absolute fear and panic, not because she didn't remember the numbers. She remembered, she remembered everything. Every tiny detail, she remembered the laughs, her mom, alive and well, her dad was there, they were together.
Like they used to be
And then she remembered that feeling, that feeling you get in your stomach as if you've forgotten something really important and you're already boarding the plane, that feeling you get of fear and panic when someone starts to grab you and take you away to their place. Willow's hands grabbed her and pulled her to her coffin, where she awoke. She couldn't breath, and she was panicing. She knew in a few minutes, she'd be out of breath. So she began to claw. Claw through the wood, claw through the dirt. She remembered the small feeling of relief when her hand shot through the ground, she made it out. She could breath. But breathing felt wrong, especially in Hell.
Suddenly she began to cry, gut wrenching sobs escaped her throat, tearing her apart. Everything that ever held her up, that saved her from breaking drifted away, and she became an empty shell of nothingness, of rage, of sadness, madness. She was broken because she was back. A thought suddenly came to her, what if someone was watching her, right now? What if her friends were watching her? What if-?
Footsteps approached her. Whoever it was, they were walking slowly, hesitantly. A small hand placed itself on Buffy's shoulder, she flinched and tried to back away, but another hand slowly touched her cheek and turned her head to face whoever this person was.
"Buffy?"
The voice sounded surprised, scared, and quiet. Buffy's eyes widenned. Her lips trembled, she whimpered slightly. And in a small whisper she said,
"Dawnie?"
Dawn leaped in her sister's arms, wrapped her small arms around her body, embracing her in a hug. She was crying.
"You're back. You're really back" she said.
