Chapter 17
Later...
Alex POV
I had some more strength now. I could stand on my own, I was just a little dizzy.
I had my arms around Nick right now. He was trying to be quiet, but he was crying. And I knew he was very upset. Nobody blamed him. He already lost his mom this year. And now he lost his dad.
Jeff was beside me, and he had one arm around my waist. Sebastian was on the other side, trying to comfort Nick a little.
The funeral was almost over now. I was glad. I just wanted to go home and sleep. And try to make Nick feel better.
"Let's go home," Sebastian's uncle said.
Nick started crying harder. We got in the car, and let Nick sit between us. Sebastian sat up front.
"It's ok, Nicky..." Jeff said, giving him a side hug.
We got back home. Jeff wouldn't let Nick go to his room. He made him sit with us at the table for dinner.
After dinner, Nick went to take a shower. Jeff and I got ready for bed.
A few days later...
Jeff POV
Nicky was still really sad. We kept trying to cheer him up. I think it was working a little bit. Alex told me that she thinks he just needs some time.
We weren't living with Sebastian's uncle anymore. Alex and I moved in with her uncle at his new house. It was big, and I really liked it.
Alex and I had separate rooms, but there was a door connecting our rooms. And I mostly stayed in her room anyway.
I felt like I was finally starting over, and getting a redo on life.
I won't get hit here, I have 3 meals a day, clean clothes, and love.
Alex was still my main source of comfort. But I was feeling so much better lately because I knew my dad was gone and locked away for good, and he couldn't hurt me.
"Jeffy, Sebastian and Nick are coming over for dinner tonight. And Sebastian's uncle," Alex said, walking into the room.
"How's Nicky doing?"
"Sebastian said he was still upset, but he was doing better."
"Good..."
"Everything ok, Jeffy?"
"Yeah... I just miss them a little..."
"Aw... Well they only live 5 minutes away. Maybe after Nick starts feeling better, we can go visit them, and they can come visit us more often."
"So they're coming for dinner?"
"Yeah."
"Cool. I can't wait."
Alex smiled, and kissed me.
"You're so cute," she said, putting her hand under my chin.
"I know. You keep telling me that," I said, laughing a little.
"Well you're all happy now that everything is taken care of. Your happiness is adorable."
I felt my cheeks get warm as I smiled.
"Come on. Let's go for a walk while we wait for them to get here for dinner."
Later...
Jeff POV
Nicky, Sebastian, and Sebastian's uncle were over for dinner. Nick was doing a lot better, and I got him to laugh!
After dinner, the 4 of us went up to Alex's room.
"You guys have a pretty cool house," Sebastian said, looking around her room.
"Thanks," Alex said.
"So... What do you guys want to do?" Sebastian asked.
"Let's watch a movie," Alex said.
We set up the movie, and we all squeezed into Alex's bed. Alex and I were in the middle, and I was also next to Nicky.
I felt so happy inside. Nicky is doing better, my dad is gone, and we're all back together again. This feels right. It feels like how everything should be. Safe and happy.
