Once I got to the back of the kitchen, I saw a clock puncher and a card with my name on it. Snooze alert, but I clocked in and headed to the serving area. All I had to do was serve food until 8:30, then I'm free until 12:00.  Then I serve food until 1, come back at 5:00 and leave at 6:00.  So I put on my apron and stood at my spot in the line.

The first person to be served was that 'Boss Lady'. I was told to only serve two peices of bacon, as that was what I did. I smiled as she just nodded. I continued my work, not really paying attention to who I was serving until I got to Xavier.

"Good morning, sunshine." He said to me.

"Good morning old pal. How are you?"

"I'm fine, only one piece for me please." I gave him a piece and smiled. A few people after him was Kota. I couldn't help but smile when he got to me.

"Hey babe." He said with a smirk. I blushed

"Oho, look at you. Mr. Hotshot."  I said, surprised.

"Moving on... I'm grabbing food for Arey as well. So, three peices for me." I gave him the food and continued to serve food for 20 more annoying minutes. I got to eat shortly after words.

By the time I got to at least sit down, Kota had already left with Arey. He had to work for a long time, So I went back into the kitchen when I was finished and volunteered with the dishesh. Though all of this is volunteer work.

After I finished scrubbing the grimy dishes. Work was boring, so I thought I would check out the public commons area. I grabbed one of the many books on a shelf. The room was near empty, so I had a choice of where to sit. I picked a really big bean bag chair. Like one i used to have in my room.  I got cozy and began reading. But that didn't last long.

Kota barged in the room frantically searching. I stood up, assuming he was looking for me. Once he spotted me, he quickly walked towards me, obviously trying not to look panicked. He grabbed my hands and led me to the doors.

"Kota, you're hurting me." I said, furrowing my eyebrows.

"Kaitlyn, it's Arey. I just saw her in the infirmary. She looks really beat up." He sputtered, out of breath. We ran down the hallways together, hand in hand. We both burst in the doors to the infirmary. Kota led me to her bed. Her faced was bruised, her lip busted. She turned her precious little face towards me.

"I sorry... trying to help." She said, her eyes glazed. I folded her hands in mine.

"Your okay now Arey. Just tell me what happened."

"I saw bubby be mean to you. Wanted you to feel better. I asked him to play nice. He likes you a lot before you got here. He hit me after he said no. He's sorry. He brought me here and didn't leave until he," she pointed at Kota, "came." I listened to her story and turned on my heels. I had to find Xavier and hurt him. Whether that's physically or mentally. I wanted him to feel the pain Arey was feeling. His 'sorry' does not work.

I found him sitting on a couch with his head in his hands. I walked up to him and waited for him to notice.
Without moving his head he spoke to me. "I'm sorry, Kait." I sat down next to him.

"Why'd you do it?" I said keeping my calm.

"She was prying, and I was... freaking out about something... but she was acting like... she was better than me..."

"Xavier, she's only 5." I almost hissed.

"I know, okay?!" He yelled just a little too loud. I placed my hand on his back.
"Xavier," I tested, "Come with me, just so you can apolo-" I was cut of by him grabbing my face and pressing his lips to mine. I didn't know what to do. I wanted to kiss him back, but Kota... and he had a girlfriend! He pulled me deeper into the kiss. I felt a hot steam rising in my face.

I pulled away from the kiss with tears in my eyes.

"What are you doing?" I asked him, and my heart was pounding and aching.

"I've missed you. You're the one thing that I've thought about down here each day." He turned his face away, but looked back to me.

"But you have a girlfriend..." His face looked torn.

"She left me. The day I found out you were coming, I got to excited.. and she hated that. So when you finally came... she moved out for good." Tears welled in his eyes. I used my sleeve to wipe them away. Mine had already disappeared. I stood up and grabbed Xavier's hand.

"Come on, I bet you want to see her. They've already treated a lot of things since you left." He yanked his hand away and pushed himself up. It felt like a stab through the heart, but.. I knew he didn't want to see the mess he started.

"Thank you for understanding." He said as he walked passed me.

I glanced down at the watch I was given this morning. Since it was 12:44 I had to head back to the cafeteria. I had a slight  headache from all the drama from today.

As I was scrubbing a dirty place in the sink after work, I cut my palm on a knife at the bottom of the sink. My first instinct was to put the wound in my mouth. Which that wasn't very smart. The blood, soap, and wet food taste didn't mix. So I pulled it away from my mouth a little to fast. My teeth ended up scraping the cut and made it bleed even more.

Making sure my blood didn't get on the ground, I walked over to the first aid kit by the door. The blood filled my palm, so I dumped it in the trash can beneath me. I fumbled around, trying to clean the cut and wrap it. The clock out machine was next to me, so I clocked out for this shift. My last job started at 5, and it was only 2, so I went back to my room t hang I out in the private entertainment room. The day just got more and more boring after the kiss. I haven't been kissed before. It felt so right, but if this was truly meant to be, I wouldn't have fallen for Kota. In this bunker, barely anything happens. For me, romance was just a way to fill wasteful time.

As I walked down the halls, I kept mental note of my surroundings. Everything here was so old. The clocks, speakers, showers, even the beds. They were never used, so there was no need to replace them. Halfway down the hall a loud noise sounded through the whole bunker. I looked around the hall to see if anyone who would know what was going on was around.  But just my luck, I was alone. I headed for the busiest spot down here, and that was the commons. Hopefully someone with some sort of leadership, would be explaining.

The commons room was loaded with all 30 people we had down here. Right as I thought, I heard something being spoke about. An attack on Quadrant One?

This caused my whole body to shake. That's where my whole life was... Mom, Samantha... and maybe Jade. I felt a hand on my shoulder. I turned to see Kota standing behind me.
"Hey, are you alright? That alarm scared me. I was worried about you-" I cut him off by hugging him as tight as I could. I didn't know why, but my body just told me to. It just felt right. He held me close and started petting and whispering calming words into my hair. Of course I'd be panicked...

The 'Boss' walked to the front of the room.

"There has been a surprise attack on Quadrant One. This attack was unpredictable by our scholars. Some people with too much free time will begin training tomorrow. People with useless jobs start tonight in place of their job. The more important jobs will still continue." After that she just walked away.

"Oh god...." I said as my legs gave out beneath me. Kota grabbed me tight around the waist and held me as close as I could be. All my strength had melted put of me.

"My mom... my friends... my home." I staggered out... I felt my face get hot as tears fled my eyes.
"Don't worry Kait, they'll take all survivors under 18 to camps like this. Then they'll really need to start bunking people together." He lifted me up so I could look him in his eyes. "Kaity, anyone you care about will be here. There's plenty room." I hung my head.

"I wanna go now." I said burring my face into his chest. "Why are you so nice to me... and caring, and just s-" He cut me off by pulling me into a tight hug.

---Chapter End---

I'm  on break, so I'm sorry if these are coming out too quickly. I really hate how this is all romance. I really want it to be better, but I'm lost with how. It's all feels so forced and not realistic in any way. I hate this so much...
