San Bernardino, California

I wait outside the diner for about five minutes before Betsy stumbles out of the doors with a white Beatles tee and the same skinny jeans she had on earlier. She has a satchel around her right shoulder and Ray Bans, identical to the ones I’m wearing, block her green eyes. She gives a quick smile before we walk over to my car, “Do you still live in the same house?” She asks,

“Yeah. We don’t move away from friends.” I say slightly bitterly and even though she has her sunglasses on, I can feel her rolling her eyes at me.

We stop in front of my car and I fish out my keys, “Nice ride.”

“Thanks. I saved up a lot from my part time job at Bob’s Auto.”

“Do you still work there?” I unlock the car and we both slide in.

“No, not anymore. Wanted to focus on my studies but I promised to come back soon.” I click on my seatbelt, “Seatbelt please.” Betsy comprehends and does the same.

We’re on the road in a trice and I have to close the windows because Betsy’s afraid her hair will come undone. “Have you got the mirror?” She asks me.

“Safe in my pocket.” I say

“So what have you seen so far?”

“Well I’ve seen lots of pretty girls and some lovely architecture but...”

“I’m talking about the mirror you idiot!” I pull out a sidelong smile when I hear the giggle in her voice.

“Well when I found it, I cut myself on it and I think it healed me-”

“That’s the Angelic allegiance acting out.” She interrupts,

“OK? Anyway, after that, it created holes in the ground and sent out shockwaves strong enough to lift the sand a meter into the air and to start my car alarm.”

She hesitates for a moment before answering undecidedly “It’s not stable.” She ganders. “It must be part of a bigger mirror that controls it’s powers.”

“Well that makes sense.” I say with a nod.

“What about at the diner? What did it do?”

“You know what happened. You were there.”

“I felt an angelic aura in the room but I didn’t see what happened. Please go through it.”

“Right, so when I looked at it at the diner, the surface rippled sightly then a single ripple came out and a girl came through. It was like she was floating in water.”

“That’s strange. I’ve never seen anything like that before, a girl trapped in Angelic Glass.”

“Yeah same.” I say casually with a hint of sarcasm in it.

Betsy brushes the comment aside and stays in business mode, “Did she have any wings or anything?”

“What, why would you...” The question starts to sink in, wings, Angelic Glass. “You think she’s an angel?”

She doesn’t notice my genuine surprise, it’s like she’s lost in her own little world, “Can I see the shard please?”

“Yeah.” I reach for it in my pocket and hand it over to her with one hand on the steering wheel.

In the corner of my eye, I see her unwrapping the cloth and notice the look of surprise on her face when she sees the girl trapped in the mirror. She covers her mouth and quickly brushes the plane surface with her fingers. “We have to do something about this.” She looks up at me, “How long ‘till we get there?”
