Camp Seraphic
“Are you going to tell me where she is now?” I ask Mike as we storm down the main dirt path running through Camp Seraphic following Gabriel and Rafa while Nate jogs slightly behind with Josiah. It’s been at least twenty minutes since we found out that the Archangels have managed to locate Atalya but they keep insisting on not telling me where she is. They even started off not wanting me, Nate or Josiah to come but I counter argued “We’re the ones who got her into this mess, we have to be the ones to get her out of it.” They eventually gave in and here I am, still clueless about where we’re headed but tingling with excitement that Atalya’s been found.
“She’s somewhere near Lincoln, Nebraska.” Mike says with a groan.
“What’s she doing there?” I ask,
“I don’t know.” He replies, “That’s why we wanted you to stay here, we think it might be a trap, or a distraction.”
“Well how did you find her.”
“Rafa’s powers.” Mike states, “We used an object that had emotional tethers with Azalea to make the tracking process easier. Atalya may be in control of her body but Azalea’s still inside somewhere.”
“What was the object?”
“Our register tag.” Josiah interrupts while jogging next to us,
“What’s that?” I ask,
“You’ve got one.” He says matter-of-factly and he points to my army tag.
“This?” I ask, feeling the grooves of my name on it. “My father gave this to me.”
“He must have registered you then.” He replies, “Every angel is given one as a sort of memento that you’ve been registered.”
“So what did you mean by ‘our register tag’?” I ask Josiah as we run under the entrance archway and out onto the cloud surrounding the camp.
“Azalea lost hers when she was young so I got someone to add her name to mine.” He explains and just in time as we stop at the edge of the cloud abruptly.
“What are we doing?” Nate asks and I see Rafa shaking his head,
“We were trying to find her using the emotional tethers...” Mike begins,
“But?” I ask and I step closer to the edge of the cloud,
“But we didn’t need it because...” I peer over the edge and it catches my eye like a lightning strike. Below us on the ground, burning bright red against a field of green is a single letter. ‘A.’ “That’s why we think it’s a trap.” Mike finishes and I look over to Nate and Josiah who both wear the same identical blank expressions. There’s no time to tally up emotions because Rafa’s shouting at us,
“Fly down and bend your knees when you land.” He announces before jumping off. Gabriel and Mike follow suit and then Nate, Josiah and I take the plunge, I can see the Archangels’ white wings stroking through the air as I feel mine purging out of my shoulder blades. Nate and Josiah fly down in different paths and the whole situation feels so surreal. As I near the ground, I control my wings to flap and I immediately straighten up so that I land carefully. However, when I look around me, I don’t see people, only maize that shoots eight feet into the air, my wings fold in as I begin to wade through the sea of green. My eyes cautiously look around to spot any dangers but so far, there’s none. After a few meters of walking, something flies by my right side, causing my body to impulsively jump out of the way, I crash onto the floor and when I look up, a wall of fire looms in front of me, restricting access to the other side. I stand up and cautiously continue where I was going, after about five minutes of walking sans any interruptions, I stop in my tracks at the sound of something whizzing. It’s coming from the right so I jump forward to crash onto the floor again. Just as I expected, another wall of fire blocks me from backtracking, something or someone is definitely trying to direct me somewhere. It looks like I’m cradled at the intersection of two fire walls so I stand up to keep following the first one but immediately, another one barricades me. Now, I’m standing at the end of a corridor made of fire, that’s not strange and eerie whatsoever. It looks like I’m being directed down a particular path so I have no choice but to follow it. After a few tiring minutes of trying to move the plants out of the way, something jumps through the left fire wall and lands in front of me, it’s Gabriel.
