Chapter 7

I just wanted to sing and dance around as we approached Ollivanders Wand Shop. It was currently being run by Garrick Ollivander's nephew, Gabriel. I'd read all about him.

Harry pushed open the door and the shop immediately cleared.

"Ah, Mr. Potter. I've been waiting for you." Mr. Ollivander smiled at our little party.

"I've brought you three today, Mr. Ollivander, only one's mine though."

I was only half listening, my eyes were soaking everything up. The shelves, stacked with wands, new and old. The counter with the battered bell perched on some wand boxes, and Gabriel Ollivander himself. He had brown eyes and dark brown hair, a few scars on his arms, and a knowledgeable air about him. Someday that could be me.

"My shop is rather interesting isn't it?" Mr. Ollivander asked, directing his question at me. I nodded dumbly.

"Clara's actually really interested in wands. Aren't you Clara?" Ginny mentioned.

"I've been looking for an assistant," he winked at me, "Perhaps in the summer, eh? Now, I think you'd best go first."

I walked towards the counter and Gabriel was off, "11 1/4 inches, Apple, Unicorn hair, Slightly Swishy. Try this."

I took the wand. Now I was in my element. I knew all about this. I gave the wand a slight flick and the bell toppled from its box perch.

"Perhaps not." He took it back and replaced it with another, "12 inches, Alder, Unicorn, Unyielding."

I tried again. This time, the boxes fell off the counter.

"Hmm, I wonder..." Mr. Ollivander went behind the shelves, "10 3/4 inches, Cypress, Phoenix Feather, Unyielding."

"Phoenix Feather?" I asked, "But that's-"

"I know," he said, looking curiously at me, "Give it a try."

So I swished the wand. But instead of anything bad happening, a series of red sparks came from the end of the wand and wrote C.D.A. in an elaborate font in the air.

"Clara Daphne Adams," I said slowly, "C.D.A."

"Well isn't that curious!" Smiled Mr. Ollivander, "You have your wand, Miss Adams. And you can definitely come back in the summer!"

I grinned. I had a wand, and it had a Phoenix Feather core. Like Harry, and now that I thought about it, James.

Harry paid the money for my wand and I watched Rose get allocated hers. 9 1/4 inches, Acacia wood, Unicorn core, slightly springy. I knew from my reading that that wand would suit her. I was however, surprised at the contrast of length and flexibility, but the wand had chosen Rose.

Next up was Albus. He had to try 6, it seemed Mr. Ollivander may have misjudged him slightly. You also needed people skills to be a wandmaker.

Albus's wand was 12 1/4 inches, Alder wood, Unicorn core, surprisingly swishy. A wand for someone kind at heart. The wand that chose Albus.

I thanked Mr. Ollivander wholeheartedly before we left, and he told me he was sincere about the summer. I think my wand must have intrigued him, because he even gave me a few copies of his uncle's old notes before I was dragged off.

It was Rose that made us leave, because whilst she'd been off with Ginny, buying our basic essentials, she'd missed the pet purchasing.

With my cat in the crook of my arm and my wand in my right hand, we returned to Magical Menagerie to get Rose a pet. She wanted a cat too, so while she was stood in front of the cages with Harry and Ginny, Albus and I were deliberating on what I should name my new pet.

"Olive?" Was my first suggestion.

"Shadow." Was his.

"Stripes."

"Socks."

"Mew?"

"I have an idea, you know how I've named my owl Altheda? Well there were three women in the Fountain of Fair Fortune weren't there? 3 of us, 3 pets, 3 women." Albus said.

"Now that is good." I told him.

Harry was grinning hugely as Rose walked over with a bundle of ginger fluff in her arms, "Isn't she adorable?" She asked.

I grinned, "Yep. Now, about names..."

It was after we'd returned home by Floo Powder that we talked about it. And so Rose's cat was christened Amata, and mine, Asha.
