"YO WHAT UP ITS YA BOI TACHIHARA!" Tachihara comes and leans onto your desk.
Too tired to come up with a witty reply, you sigh and look up at him. Hopefully your desperate eyes will convince him to go away for a while.
"Awwww you look so sad!"
"Nah, just tired. Busy." Maybe he'll go away now.
"Maybe you should take a break every once in a while, ya know?"
Your stomach churns. "I already took my breaks."
"When does your shift EEEEEEEEEK!!!!!!!!!!!!" His little girl shriek echoes throughout the entire building as a knife is pressed to his throat. It's Gin.
"Why do you always have to come up and SLIT MY THROAT?!" he yells.
"If she slit your throat, you would be dead," you tell him.
"Whatever, the knife thing she always does!" Tachihara's voice fades as he finally runs away. You turn back to your work.
Gin is still here. You see her in your peripheral vision. She reaches across your desk and gently places her hand on top of yours. You bite your bottom lip and focus on a scratch on your desk.
After a bit, her hand slides away and she leaves. She will probably go hang out with Tachihara. You try to swallow, but your throat closes up and your eyes pool. Your vision gets blurry. You're not going to get any work done now.
You wipe your eyes, but a second later they tear up again. You blink and a tear plops onto your desk. You have to go home.
You pack up your stuff and blot your face with a tissue in case you see anyone you know on your way home. When you're on your way to the front door, someone grips your wrist. You shriek as they pull you into the dark corner of the room.
"Shh. It's me." It's Gin's soft voice.
"Oh." You look down at the floor.
"Why are you mad at me?" she asks.
"I'm not mad at you."
"We haven't spoken very much in the past few days."
"I'm busy."
"You're gone before I can even find you to walk home with you."
"That's probably because you're with Tachihara." Your voice breaks at his name.
"Are you crying?" Gin's fingertips brush your cheek. You're biting your lip so hard it's drawing blood. Her grip loosens on your wrist.
"You like him, don't you?" You say bitterly.
"Like who?"
"Tachihara."
"That's disgusting."
"You're together all the time." A warm tear trickles down your face. This is so stupid. You're doing nothing but making an ass of yourself.
"We work together. We're both Black Lizard commanders. That's about all the time I spend with him."
"Do you enjoy spending time with him?"
"Not really, why are we talking about Tachihara? This is about us, me and you." She lets go of your wrist and takes your hand. You wish it meant something. Another tear falls.
"Why are you crying?" She whispers. "You know you can tell me anything, right? We're friends."
That's it. You pull away from her. "I don't want to be friends anymore," you blurt. Not even waiting for her to say anything, you run out the door and away.
