Joslynn’s POV

“But why did you tell them that in the first place? That wasn’t your place. It was mine. I made it explicitly clear what I wanted done, yet you chose to go against what I wanted, despite the fact it was clearly my decision, and not yours,” I said annoyed and tired into the phone. It was now 7:00 in the morning here, which was just too early for me, but quite late for my mom.

My mother sighed. “Joslynn, I know, and I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have done it. I just thought that pressing charges would put a lot of weight on your shoulders, especially with the move and everything. I was doing it to protect you.”

“To protect me? Mom, I’m 18. I’m an adult. I can protect myself. I am old enough to make decisions for myself. I was a legal adult when this all happened, and I told you to please tell the officers I’d like to press charges, and you went against that. I trusted you, Mom.”

“And you should still trust me now, Honey. I understand why you’re mad and--”

“Mad? Oh, I’m more than mad. I’m furious,” I said in an angry tone.

My mom sighed again. “I understand. And I understand that you are 18 and can make decisions for yourself. I shouldn’t have done that. I just didn’t think that you would want to have to go to court, because it would have affected the move and you were already so stressed out.”

This time, I sighed. “Mom, I love you, and I know you love me and I know you did what you did to look out for me. But, I need to make decisions on my own. I made the decision to move to London, and it hasn’t been a bad one. I can think for myself and I know what I want from my life. And one thing I know I want is justice, because Joshua deserves to rot in a jail cell, not a theoretical one that you made up and told me he was in. Lying to me about Joshua being in jail and lying to the police officers about me wanting to press charges was not okay. I know you did it in my best interest, but you really, really should have consulted me first.”

“I know, Joslynn. I made a mistake. And I realized that as soon as I heard what Joshua had done to the girl in the night club. I made sure that was true and I contacted his lawyer and told him our situation, and now you have the opportunity to press charges.”

I sighed, seeing Harry walk in the room from his bedroom very tired looking and give Niall and I a weird look. “Look, Mom, I’m going to have to call you later. Harry just walked in and I have to tell him what’s going on now. I’m still upset and I will be for a while. But, I love you, Mom. I really do.”

“I love you, too, Honey. I understand you’re upset. Take your time; I know what I did was wrong. I also will contact your father and tell him what is happening and then you can call him. Is that okay for you?”

I was about to protest, but decided it would be childish for me to have to tell my dad what my mom did. I sighed, saying, “Yeah, that’s fine. Love you, Mom. Now get some sleep, I know it’s late there.”

“Love you, too, Sweetie. I do need some sleep, but I hope you have a good day. Bye, Joslynn.”

I hung up the phone, throwing it onto the couch and then sitting down, putting my head in my hands.

“Um, what’s going on?” Harry asked, exhausted, sitting on the couch with Niall and I. “And why are you up so early? All of the talking woke me up.”

“I have to go back to California because I have to go to court,” I simply said.

“What?! Why?” Harry asked, looking very concerned.

“Because of Joshua. My mom lied to the police officers and told them I didn’t want to press charges. Now Joshua has been arrested for raping another woman and my mom finally told the truth and said I wanted to press charges. And now, the only way for me to do that is for me to go to court. And, you and Louis have to go, too, because you’re both witnesses.”
