Copying a summary I wrote on my DeviantArt because it's late and I'm lazy XD
It is well with my soul...
~ On a hymnsong of Philip BlissThis one took me a few days, and I definitely had my ups and downs with it. I think I should've taken more time on this, cleaning up the clouds and grass and such, but I've grown sick of working on it and think that it is presentable enough as it is.
I love how the poppy flowers in the front are the most realistic thing in this painting
Anyway, this is my poor baby, Deacon. I don't have his whole story planned out, but the first idea of his death was at the hands of revolting prisoners, one of which his handler, Colton was somewhat friends with. And, poor Deac was always a gentle soul throughout the whole war, locating even enemy soldiers and guiding Colton to them to treat. He was compassionate and loyal to the end, only attacking an enemy soldier to protect his handler, who had been attempting to convince the prisoners to stand down and was about to get shot.
Colton and Deacon were extremely close, sharing the same outlook on the war. They both were somewhat shunned by their comrades (fellow war dogs for Deac) for their compassion toward the enemies and their overall attitude toward the war. Deac himself was rather passive whenever he was forced into combat, and hesitant whenever he was forced to be violent. He even befriended a German (I think, am not sure, haven't planned too far yet) and his dog when they took him in after getting separated from his unit during a bombardment.
And yet, despite all this, he never got along with a captured German dog (once again, maybe German, still need to do further planning and research) that later served with his unit.
The necklace resting on the cross was given to him by Colton, because he though he was his Guardian or his angel or something sentimental like that
The adding of the poppies was inspired by the poem In Flanders Fields by John McCrae.
But, yes, my poor Deac was a pure, innocent soul and I killed him
I might write more on this later, but as of now, I cannot think of anything else to add.PS, someone please teach me how to shade and paint grass!
