Prologue

Prologue:

"Luke, do you believe in falling in love?" My heart hit against my rib cage, waiting for him to answer.

The proximity of our bodies were so close, I could feel the heat radiating off his body

"No" his eyebrows knit together

The sudden heat left, being replaced by an icy cold temperature

"I don't believe in 'falling' in love" he corrected

"Why is that?" I raised an eyebrow

His eyes locked with mine.

"Because when things fall, they break" his finger tips swift against my knuckles

"But if falling in love meant being with you, I would break everyday" he smiled sweetly

The heat returned, maybe even hotter than before, but I know that the next time I see Luke, things will be changed.

I bit my lip nervously

"Kristy, what's wrong?" His eyes danced in different shades of blue

"Will you still love me if I was facing something bad?" I exhaled a shaky breath

"What's going on?" He looked at me terrified

Tears started to prick the back of my eyelids.

"Kristy, tell me" he gaped

"Luke, I- I have cancer" I broke down in tears.

The look in his eyes, was unexplainable, it didn't show fear, nor regret, it showed sorrow, I assumed he would leave me at this point but the words he said next fixed a few broken pieces of me.

His eyes layered with tears.

"Kristy" he swallowed "I will love you unconditionally"

In that moment, I knew Luke was the one who held me up in times like these. He was picking up the broken pieces, one by one and he didn't care if he got cut. Because he loved me as much as I loved him.
