**note**

I rewrote a lot of this chapter once I realized how bad it was. The plot of this chapter is the same, but I added needed details and discarded unimportant details. Hope it's better:)

The cold air pinched at my skin as I step out of my house for the last time. I loved it here in Minnesota, but I am totally ready to go home. I miss the warm sun and sparkling waters of California.

In 8th grade my dad got this crazy high paying job, but it required us to move all the way across the country. Nobody in my family wanted to leave California. We were broke and needed the money. I knew I would leave as soon as possible though. I made a promise to my best friend saying I wouldn't leave her forever. My mom told me when I am done with school, she will let me move back.

Things have changed quite a bit now. My dad was caught cheating and my mom already had problems with him, so she decided to let me leave early. She is coming with me of course and so is my sister, Charlie.

I grabbed the last box of my stuff from the front porch and carefully walked to the car. I opened the box up and took out my laptop and a few books to keep myself occupied during the 14 hour drive to our first destination. When I opened the back door I saw Charlie already asleep. The back seat of the car had blankets and pillows for me and Charlie to sleep in because we are both pretty lazy. I rolled my eyes and moved her legs a bit, so could get all the way in.

Once my mom got in the car as well, we were off. I plugged my headphones into my laptop and started one of the many movies I downloaded ahead of time. I started to feel a bit nervous to see all my old friends again. I tried to drown out the fears out by thinking of the good times me and my best friend, Cassidy, had when we were in middle school. I can't believe I finally get to see her again. I know she'll help me out.

After two long days of driving, we finally made it to Long Beach. The streets of downtown were full of skinny girls riding of bikes and cute guys riding next to them on skateboards. Everything was to same as I remembered. Every square foot was lit up by the lights of the glowing buildings. Once we drove all the way through the skyscraper filled city, we ended up in a neighborhood full of big and beautiful houses. We pulled into the driveway of a bungalow style house with a cute swinging chair on the porch.

"Wow," I said while getting out of the car. It was an amazing looking house and the inside was even better. The kitchen was giant and had a long island with tall wood barstools on one side. The living room had a large flatscreen tv and smooth leather couches with cute decorative pillows. The rooms were huge too. Every room was furnished and decorated with style.

My room had a queen size bed in the middle with white bedding and blue pillows. The lights connected to the headboard made the whole thing glow. I grabbed all my boxes from the acr and unpacked everything I could.

Just as I was about to lay down, I got a phone call. I didn't know the number, but I decided to answer anyway.

"What's up loser?" The caller said,"Get your ass outside! We have places to be right now!" They hung up right after that. I heard a car horn outside, so I ran outside assuming it was the person from the phone call.

When I got out there I saw Cassidy standing in front of her new black Camaro Convertible and wearing a white swim suit cover up over a small black bikini. Her hair had the same beach wave from 3 years ago.

I ran to her a gave her a big bear hug. She's a lot taller than I remember. A lot prettier too. I guess when you become a senior you just look a lot older. I hope that happens to me next year.
