~Chapter One~

"I remember tears streamin' down your face when I said I'll never let you go

When all those shadows almost killed your light

I remember you said don't leave me here alone

But all that's dead and gone and past tonight.

Just close your eyes, the sun is going down

You'll be alright, no one can hurt you now

Come morning light, you and I'll be safe

And

Sound"

I sang along quietly to one of my favorite songs 'Safe and Sound' by Taylor Swift.

She's the only one who gets me sometimes. Not just with this song, but in general. Sometimes I feel like I don't even belong in this century. I mean, some of the music in this century is cool, some is awesome, but people just don't get me, and I don't really get people. I have some friends, but I've kinda been a loner my whole life. I can't seem to find my group.

I roll over on my bed, sit up, and reach for my phone to shut my stupid alarm off. My phone was playing the beautiful melodies of Taylor Swift, but it had to be Monday and I had to start high school today. Yay(note my sarcasm).

"Are you up yet?" My mom yells from downstairs in the kitchen.

"Yes!" I yell back, not caring if I woke my older brother up. He hates me anyway. I am in ninth grade and he's in eleventh grade. Most big brothers are nice and protective to their little sisters but my older brother would probably trip me in a zombie appoccalypse if he got the chance to.

I glance at the clock. 6:50. Great. I'm supposed to leave for the bus now. Mark, my brother, could drive me to school, but he's mean and told mom he 'doesn't want the seats to get ruined'. Well I don't really want to go to school in the same vehicle as him either. Anyway, that's why he gets to sleep in, he has to leave by 7:30.

"Carolyn?! Are you up yet?! You've missed the bus!" I look at the clock again. 7:00 a.m. Yup. I have missed the bus. Time flies when you're having fun...... or if you're half asleep. Oh well, I don't live that far from school, I don't think it would kill me to walk.

"Carolyn?!"

"I know! I'm gonna have to walk today mom!"

"Okay! Just so you know though, it's raining." What? Am I still dreaming? I thought she said it's raining. It never rains here. Not where I live. Literally, never. Unless something really special is happening that day. I wonder if today will be a special day.

I get my stuff, shove seom cereal in my mouth, and run out the door. It's like someone dumped a bucket of water on me. I run back inside, run upstairs, and change. Then I run back downstairs and grab a my mom's big black umbrella.

"Wait, sweetie. That one has a whole in it. Take this one," my mom says, handing me a small rainbow umbrella. The one I used when I was little.

"Thanks mom!" I say before running out the door.
