"Edith Marie Anna Lyndsy Jones, where the devil have you been?!" I yell as I march up to my best friend, on the second day of high school.
She throws her hands up in surrender. "Whoah there, Carolyn!!! I was sick, sheesh!!" she fakes hurt. I shake my head in fake disappointment at her.
"Eda, Eda, Eda. What are we going to do with your immune system?" (I call Edith Eda for short.)
"I don't really care, as long as we don't feed it poisin. 'Cause then I would die. And that would be sad." she sticks her bottom lip out and makes sad puppy eyes at me
I laugh. "Okay."
"Carolyn! Hey, Carolyn!" Someone yells. I turn around and see Harry running toward us.
"Who's that?" Edith asks.
"Harry, but I have no idea why he's coming over here."
He finally reaches us, and surprisingly, he's not out of breath. "Carolyn, I.... I need to tell you something.... I was going to tell you yesterday, but I didn't get the chance to."
"Um, sure. What do you need to tell me?" I ask.
"Well, um..." He guestures to Eda.
"Oh."
"Fine. I get it. But no making out while I'm gone. And you, young lady," she points to me, "have to tell me what I missed yesterday when I get back!" Eda says before skipping off to her first class.
Harry turns to me..... well, actually, I turn to him. I think he's been staring at me this whole time. Well that's not creepy.......
"Carolyn... I need you to follow me."
"But the bell's about to ring..."
"I know, but it's just.... this is just really important." The look on his face tells me he's not kidding.
"Um....okay," he starts walking to the edge of campus, and soon, off campus all together.
"Where are we go-"
"Stop." He orders. I stop walking and look up at him. "Take my hand." I'm very confused, but I do as I'm told. "You wanna know why you always feel like the outcast? Like you don't belong in this world? Like only your best friend, Edith, understands you? And sometimes, not even her? You wanna know why you always feel like you don't fit in this world? Like you're annoyingly optimistic? Wanna know why you're never into all the stuff everyone else is into? And you're never up to date on the daily gossip? Do you ever feel like you don't belong." Harry says slash asks.
"Whoah. You like, described my whole life just then."
"It's because you're a princess from the past."
