Chapter Two

There are no cars on the road today, which is unusual because a lot of people would be driving to school about this time.

"Don't you dare look out your window, darlin' everything's on fire

The war outside our door keeps ragin' on

Hold on to this lullaby

Even when the music's gone

Gone"

I hum along to my music again. Then I hear a car horn that sounds really close.

I take out my headphones and turn around. Oh. That's where all the cars are. Stuck behind some creep that's driving really close behind me. I can't tell who it isi but I'm not sure I really want to know.

I start to walk faster but the creep who's following me just drives faster to keep up with me.

I know curiosity killed the cat, but I can't help it. So I turn around. "Hey! Why are you following me?"

"What?" The guy yells back after rolling his car window down.

I walk closer to his car so he can hear me better. That's when I see his face. He's got curly brown hair. I think his name's Harry. I know I've seen him around school, but I never actually met him. "I said, why are you following me?"

"Do you want a ride to school?"

I give him a confused look. "I don't even know you."

"Well, then I guess you'll be late."

"What do you mean?" I ask, still walking close to his car with about ten angry people behind yelling and honking.

"It's already 7:50 and school starts at 8:00. Come on, get in. I'll give you a ride."

I hesitate. "Um... okay." I don't really know this guy but he seems trustworthy.

After a few minutes of driving in silence, he speaks up. "Um.... my name's Harry. What's yours?"

"Carolyn," I say, and he gasps. "What?" He shakes his head "no". I shrug it off and look out the window and admiring the way the rainsdrops look against the glass.

"Pretty weird how it's raining today. It never rains, unless something big is happening that day." Harry comments. I nod.

Why am I not creeped out that he read my mind? Because everyone in little ole Louisville knows it.

It was raining the day Louisville was founded. It was raining the day a little seven year old girl got kidnapped and it was raining the day they found her three days later, unharmed thankfully. It was raining the day that nine year old boy's dog saved him from being smushed by a careless truck driver. And there are so many more times.

We pull into the school parking lot and I jump out and he does the same, locking his car.

"Thanks," I say.

"No problem."

"Well, I'm gonna go to class now, let's hope we aren't late." I say with a smile.

"Yeah," he says, and we head out separate ways.
