The ball room was beautiful.
It had a sparkling chandelier in the middle of a large dance floor. Hundreds of candles lit the room and there were a few more tables outside as well as another dance floor. There were Avox waiters walking in and out of the rooms serving people champagne and cheesy platters.
“Wow, you people sure like to party”
“We do, don’t we!” Ceaser Flickermen appeared, flashing a dazzling smile. His teeth were golden. A camera man followed behind him and started filming.
“Young Scarlett, I am so glad you are here” he said pleasantly, kissing my hand and bowing.
“Thank you” I nodded, looking around for an escape.
“Are you excited for the big surprise?” He asked me suddenly taking me off guard.
“Um, y-yes, I am very excited” I tried to smile but faltered.
“Ah, lovely! And that dress is to die for”
I simply smiled and shrugged.
He grabbed a glass of champagne and handed it to me. “Enjoy Scarlett Aspen, the lovely victory of the 87th Games, this is a victory ball for you!”
The camera man moved on as well as Ceaser.
Finally, with him gone I can catch my breath. I don’t know how much of this party I will be able to endure.
“Well what do we have here?” a deep voice called from behind me.
I turned slowly, in order to save from tripping on my dress. I took a deep breath to greet who I presumed to be a rich and ignorant capitol citizen only to see President Snow himself. Guess I wasn’t too far off.
“President Snow” I bowed slightly.
“Beautiful dress young Scarlett, I’m sure everyone will love it”. He paused a little to sip some of his wine before adding “especially our special guest tonight”.
He chuckled to himself as my face went pure white. The ‘special guest’ could only mean Arrow. I squeezed my knuckles and fought the urge to strangle the man mocking me.
“Where is he?” I leaped towards him. Without warning five different body guards jumped out at me and grabbed me, holding me in place. I tried to control my breathing; as well as my temper.
There were a few gasps and everybody turned to look at the loud commotion.
“Relax” Snow laughed loudly, smiling around to his onlookers.
“Young Scarlett here was just telling me how excited she was for the big surprise” he chuckled again as his guards let my arm go. A few audience members squealed in excitement too.
He walked towards me, leant in and started to whisper.
“Don’t you dare make a scene, little girl! You don’t want to end up like your poor coach Avery do you?”
Then he kissed my cheek and hugged me slightly.
“I’ll kill you!” I spat into his ear. How dare he even mention what he did to Avery! She was an avox now and was sentence to live a life as a capitol traitor. I had no idea where she was, some people said she was back in district 1 but I wasn’t sure. I was just happy she was alive.
Snow stepped away from me and began to chuckle. His laughter was so cold it gave me chills.
“Beautiful dress!” he said loudly.
“Your designer deserves applause” he started to clap is hands and the audience followed suit. I heard them murmuring to themselves and soon the regular chatter filled the large room.
