Resting my chin on my hands I glanced at the page Amelia had placed in front of me.

"Please Axel, I can't find anyone else to do this." She looked at me with sad eyes and I knew she was feeling sorry for me. I turned away from her angrily. She didn't need to pity me, I could cope with my own emotions.

"You already know the answer, so why are you showing me?" My voice came out colder and harsher than I meant it to be. I looked at the case with longing, but she didn't understand. It would feel wrong to do this on my own.

"Is this about Sophia?"

"No." I answered sharply and glared at the wall.

"Axel," She growled at me, "You have to move on eventually, the world needs you." How can you move on from having your best friend die? She was my partner in crime, literally. I was stumbling and I couldn't find anything to lean on. And I was letting my emotions control me. Maybe I did need to start again. It would just be this once, right?

"Fine, I'll take the case but on one condition." Amelia's eyes flickered from me to the case.

"What, Axel?" I could tell she was picking her words carefully, willing me not to back out. Closing my eyes I took a deep breath, I needed to do this, I had promised.

"You'll find me a new partner."

Amelia gasped.
