Confusion.

Confusion is what I feel as Dan falls to the floor.

He quickly regains his balance and jumps up, lunging at Josh.

I don't know if it was my best friend instincts or the fact that I loved Josh but I shove myself between them just in time.

All movement ceases.

Josh peers down at me with hurt and...oh god, was that.

Yup.

Pain.

I hurt Josh Franceschi.

The man with no heart.

Time stands still it seems until he finally turns around and runs off, out the door to god knows where.

I sink down to the floor, numb.

I should be happy he's gone.

But I wasn't.

I should be happy someone decent like Dan wants me.

But I wasn't.

It didn't matter what I did, what he did.

The fact remains that I, Claire Ramsey, am completely and incandescently in love with Josh Franceschi.

*One week later*

Buzzing fills my ears.

An annoying, buzzing noise.

My cell phone.

Groaning, I sit up, realizing I'd fallen asleep at my desk for the third night in a row.

I was an editor for Kerrang! magazine but as a distraction from the chaos I'd poured myself into my work.

Begging for things to do, asking for people's overtime.

It was pathetic but then again so was I.

Reaching for my phone, I answer it, not bothering to look at the person calling.

"It's 2 in the morning this better be good."

A small, flustered male voice starts to stutter an apology.

Chris.

"I'm sorry Claire it's just that we uhm can't f-find Josh and we need your help.

"I'll find him. Go back to sleep. Tell the guys to do the same. And tell Dan I'm sorry..."

We hadn't spoken since that day. He left after Josh did, asking me to figure out what I wanted.

As if I knew anymore.

"Will do Claire Bear. Be careful. We love you."

Hanging up, I grab my black Converse and YMAS hoodie, flying out the door and dialing Josh's number at the same time.

It rings a few times but then goes to voicemail.

Fuck.

Running out into the cold, late streets of Surrey I stop at a corner and think for a moment.

I could try his flat but I'm sure the guys have already.

Marky's, but that's too obvious.

There was a place..we used to go to as kids.

He uses it as his song writing place now.

It was only a few blocks from here.

Turning down the street, I begin to sprint, going down alleys and all kinds of boulevards.

Finally, I stop in front of an old abandoned playground.

The swings, rusted with age and years of rainy days.

The slide, long gone and a withstanding pole in its place.

But atop the red and blue tunnel sits a man.

Josh.

He's staring up at the sky, humming a melody I'd recognize anywhere.

Lead Me Out of the Dark by Crown the Empire.

I told him once, it reminded me of him.

Climbing the old and tattered ladder, I sit next to him, waiting for the screams.

The cursing.

Anything.

He speaks softly, turning to me with tears in his eyes, reaching for me.

"You're the only one, please lead me out of the dark."
