Part 8

End of flashback

A/N: Please note the story has moved from past to present. Flashback covered how Samy and Sid met, their  plan to get engaged and the breakup. Story is moving to present .. after six months .. where Samy realizes Sid was joining her team and she was going to be his boss. Hope you are enjoying the story.

Six months later ...

Samy's POV

It was Friday. It was the slowest week of my life .. time was dragging .. I wanted the week to finish soon, so that Sid and all the new employees would start showing up in our office from Monday onwards.

I tried my best to shake away any feelings for Sid, but his shadow remained stuck in the back of my mind, torturing me every second with his memories.

As I walked into my office, I noticed Shenoy, our facilities manager, waiting for me.

"Samantha .. we are almost done with the cabling and installation of desktops for the new folks. I need you to go over the spots for everyone, one last time, before we setup the name boards and phones." He said, spreading the floor map on my desk.

I looked at the floor map and immediately my eyes settled on Sid's cube, at the opposite end of the floor, deliberately put in there by me. I had this debate going on in my head about the pros and cons of keeping him near me and I convinced myself, it was best to keep him as far as possible from me.

"If you don't have any more changes, I will finalize the floor plan." Shenoy suggested, moving to roll up the chart.

"Wait! One last change." I watched helplessly as my hand grabbed a pencil and switched cubes for Sid. I put his name right in front of my office.

"Ok, change noted." Shenoy rolled up the chart and walked away.

"Traitor .. my inner voice screamed - You spent the whole week convincing me to keep him away, but in the end you gave in." I didn’t plan on making the change, but couldn't help myself - in a fleeting moment of insanity - I changed his location, so that I can look at him directly from my office.

I knew, it wasn't a good decision, but as soon as I made the change, something deep .. something sweet .. stirred deep inside my heart. My mood changed and I felt good about it.

"I had the power to change his location .. so did it. Deal with it - I chided my inner voice."

Next important thing was to check his file. I requested HR to send over files for all the employees. I randomly checked others, until I got to his file.

As I scrolled down his file, my heart started beating rapidly, afraid of what I may find. As my eyes scanned his marriage status, my breathing stopped and only after seeing the single column ticked, I slowly released my breath. It was such a relief that I sat back in my chair and closed my eyes, thanking all the Gods for having mercy on me.

I knew, I rejected him and had no right to expect anything, but still, I wanted him to belong only to me. "Hmm .. There is no upper limit for your selfishness."  My inner voice chided.

I also checked his salary and was surprised - he was being paid more than his immediate manager. Though I made more money than him, it was only after my latest promotion. Based on his salary it was clear that the previous company considered him very valuable, however I need to make that determination going ahead.

Finally Monday came. I made sure to look my best. The reason I gave myself was to make good first impression on the new employees joining my team, however, my inner has been screaming at me for trying to impress one particular individual. I ignored my inner voice and was in office by 8 AM.
