I'm Avril Jackson. But they call me Ava. And by they, I mean my boys. And by my boys, I mean my lacrosse team. I know what you're thinking. What's a girl doing on a boys team. Well, just ask my boys. I am a pretty good player, not to brag but, life's not that easy for me.

"Come on Ava, show them what you got!" my best friend Henry yells at me. A game had just started and I had all my padding and helmet on and ready for the first draw. I got down next to the other teams player who was doing the draw with me. The Long Island Lizards were the best we have versed yet. Our team , the Central Jersey Warriors are good too but, I'm sure we were all nervous about his one game.

The other player looked at my face with aggressions and readiness. The whistle blew and I pushed the ball to Henry who was on the side. But before I could go after it, the other teams player knocked me over and I landed on my back onto the floor. He also landed on me and heard me scream and realized that I was a girl. The whistle blew and everyone stopped.

"You're a girl?"

"Yeah, and you're a boy. Your point is? Now could you please get off me!" I screeched.

"Oh yeah sorry." he said getting up and giving me a hand. I happily take it and get up.

"Thanks," I admit. I notice him staring at my eyes between the bars of our helmets. "we have to draw again." I snap him back to reality.

"Folks, we ready?" yelled the referee. "Yeah ref, we're good." I let out and take my place again. I have to admit that boy is pretty cute too.

Later in the day, as I walked off the field with shame and defeat, I hear Henry calling my name.

"Hey Ava! Wait up!"

"Hi Henry." I grumble, dropping my bag.

"Pretty bad game huh? You did pretty well out there. But not without my help. "

"Yes, because not passing the ball is helping, Henry." There's a look of insult on his face. "Whatever, wanna get something to eat? It's on me." he asks. I can't help but say yes because he is my best friend and I do love him.

When we soon arrive at a nearby Wendy's, we eat and Henry gets a call from his mother.

"Hey Mom, I'm with Avril at Wendy's. Want anything?"

"Oh okay good, I'm fine honey, thank you. So how was the game?"

"We sucked Mrs. Leonard!" I blurt out while everyone in the restaurant looks at me.

"Ava! Sorry Mom what she meant to say was that we didn't win and didn't do very well."

"Oh, okay, well I hope you guys can come home soon, I have a surprise for the both of you! I think it will lift your spirits." she chirps.

"Okay, cool. Thanks Mom, see you later."

"Bye Mrs. Leonard!" He hangs up and gives me the evilest look he could pull off.

"Come on, my Mom has a surprise at my place for us." he justifies getting up and throwing the trash away.

We get in my car and drive to his house. When we get there, Henry's mother opens the door and brings us in excitedly.

"Okay you two, you know how you have been complaining about how old your equipment is getting, well..." she explains as she opens up the living room closet and letting us feast our eyes on the beauteous new equipment that must have costed a fortune.

"Mom! How did you get this?"

"Well, my new job has been paying well and so, I thought I would make you guys happy." she smiles and walks toward the now crying me.
