11 year old dan, clad in new robes, whispering spells he memorized under his breath, came onto the hogwarts express with a smile.

He wondered how mad would someone be if he randomly chose a compartment to stay in. Thankfully, the moment he went on, he found an empty compartment. As silently as possible, he slipped inside, hoping no one would follow.

The moment he sat down, he noticed a small boy sitting in the corner.
"Oh I'm sorry, I didn't catch you there," Dan grimaced at the situation. The pale boy looked surprised at his apology.

"Um, I'd leave but I have no where else to go,"
Dan hoped he could make a new friend, but the boy looked dead in his eyes, with a profound sadness. "Is it okay if I stay?" Dan asked softly, not wanting to disturb him.

But perhaps it'll be better if he left and found another compartment.

Right when he was going I leave, the boy looked up.
"Yes you can stay,"

Dan, a little guilty for wanting to leave, sat down on the other side.
"My names Dan, what's yours?"
The boy just stiffly answered that his name was Phil.

"Well hello Phil, it's awfully nice to meet you," Dan smiled.

The pale one- Phil, just showed the faintest of smiles.

"So Phil..." Dan paused waiting for his response- all he got was a glance.

"So uhh, have you practiced your spells and stuff?" Dan cautiously asked- not wanting to cross a line.

"Yeah- but against my will," Phil looked almost annoyed at the question. Dan didn't notice, so he went onto asking what Phil had meant.

"My parents made me look over textbooks," Phil muttered before going back to the book in his lap- a charms textbook.

"Look over?" Dan sarcastically looked concerned and Phil blushed a little.

"Okay, maybe they made me spend almost my whole summer studying what we'll be learning at school, complete crap," Phil laughed lightly at Dan's face of utter shock.

"Your parents are insane," Dan cried out, half laughing at how in awe he his. "I spent my whole summer playing soccer/football! Scored a lot ain't that brilliant?"

"What's soccer?" Phil confusingly asked, "Is it the muggles form of Qudditch?"

"Well no, it's not really Quidditch, but it's a muggle sport," Phil noticed Dan had cringed at the way he said muggle sport.

"Are you a half blood?" Phil asked,

"Yeah, my mom's a wizard, but my dad's a muggle," Dan was grimacing himself for Phil's expected nasty reaction- which never came. Phil just smiled and said he wished for Dan's parents.

"My mom is a little bit pureblood frenzy, but my dad's okay, they are both purebloods but my dad has always been intrigued by the muggle world. My mom hates it, she almost broke up with him just because he wanted to take me to a muggle theatre downtown," Phil was grinning as he chatted with Dan.

"Well, perhaps I'd love to meet your dad," Dan wondered if that day would ever happen, "I mean we're friends now right?"

"Sure," Phil sounded with uncertainty, but he decided maybe his parents would be happy he found a friend.

The train zoomed on across the landscape, and if you looked closely, you can see two young boys laughing in their own compartment, smiling as they joked and blew all their hard-earned Galleons, Sickles, and Knuts on all the candy the Trolley witch could offer.
