Sitting on a bench outside of the main building I watched as the other students passed. I've seen myself sitting on a college campus before but I never pictured myself waiting to run down my professor. In the middle of my first semester of my third year of college, all for a grade. But there are lots of things I didn't picture doing and being in college actually happening. Powers being on of the main ones.
I looked back to my watch seeing it was just past three meaning my professor would be out any minute. Professor Blake always runs like clockwork. He's only been late a few times in the two years I've known him and all three times was due to something unavoidable. Leaving is his non-negotiable. He will always leave campus no later than ten after three and not a moment after that. Looking up I glued my eyes to the door waiting. Waiting like a lion waiting for its prey.
Finally the building doors opened and he stepped out. I pulled my bag up closer on my back and started to run. I made it to him but he continued to walk not wanting to break his schedule. I on the other hand persistent. Positive or negative character flaw depending on how you look at it honestly. "Professor Blake!" I said.
"Oh, Ms. Ackles, How are you?" he asked turning to me with a clear annoyed look. I've gotten really good at proving my professors wrong and shaking them down for a grade I know I deserve. It doesn't help that most of these professors have sticks up their but and can't get out of their own ways.
Times are changing. The world is changing. If you can't accept that, don't become a teacher for the next generation.
"I'm fine. Look, I wanted to talk to you about my paper-"
"Your grade is your grade. Besides one C is not that bad considering everything else is A's and B's."
"Apparently not, considering my grade is now a 79%" He opened the door and started to get the car but I stopped him. "Listen please, Professor Blake,"
"Okay, I'm listening." He said as he put his bag on the roof of his car. I pulled out my paper again and handed it to him only with some extra papers continueing to prove my sources.
"I'm not going to bribe you or force you to do anything. I'm just saying the grade is ridiculous. My paper clearly states why becoming a crazy murderer or psychopath and or sociopath is both Nurture and Nature. I showed all the evidence of the studies I looked very deeply into. This has been my focus since last year. A man found a gentic marker than explains violent and often murderous tendencies found in many famous murders might I add. But he had no homicidal urges or tendencies. A test of a man in prison for six cases of first-degree murder had a similar genetic code only he had a really shitty childhood." Professor Blake gave me a funny look not likening anything but professionalism. "Well it was. This paper should have minimum a B plus. Just read it again look at the studies." I said. He looked at me a certain way most of my teachers in the past have. A little anger but impressed. After pursing his lips for a second he finally spoke.
"I haven't seen a student this passionate in years Ms. Ackles, I'll give you that." he said. I gave him my sweetest smile as I handed him the paper with all the studies included. "But shake me down after class, not in the parking lot on my way out. Ms. Ackles, I want to go home."
"Noted Professor Blake," He got in his car and drove off. I couldn't help but smile and jump up for a second. While my grades tipped a bit in highschool but I'm proud to say I got them right back up and still continue to hold really good grades. My last C was freshman year.
"Nora!" I looked up to see Emily in my four doors blue jeep wrangler. "Let's Go!" I ran over as Emily shifted into the passenger side door. I threw my bag into the back seat floor board since the top was off allowing the warm weather to flow past us. I tied my hair up in a ponytail then flipped the engine heading back for home.
