     "EVIE!"
As I roar her name towards the top of the stair case I hear her begin to shuffle around. I mean she is pretty small for her age but she is a dragon. It would be hard not to hear her. I reach the top of the staircase just in time to see her lean up against the back wall and give me her puppy eyes.
"Nuh-uh missy! Those won't work now!"
She lets out a small squeak.
     "Don't."
Squeak.
     "Do."
Squeak.
     "That."
Squeak.
"Ugh! Why do you have to be so darn cute."
I grab my hair and grunt and curl up into a ball. Like any rational person. Of course. After a few moments of lamentation I begin to walk towards her and our uncompleted chess game. We liked to play chess. It was a silent game. We could communicate telepathically, so she could be laying in the fire and we could be playing. I guess everything is like that between us, but chess is our favorite, it provides a challenge. I sat back down at the small round table. Quiet, refined, calming my composure. Deep breath. In. Out.

"Evie, we are being sued." I said as calmly as possible.

I swear she was mocking me because I heard an little laugh escape.

"It's not funny. I mean it! Did you go around burning things down, because I though we talked about this."

"What do you mean we didn't talk about this? I... We... No! We sat down and I clearly remember saying 'Evie don't go around down and burn things down, that is bad'."

I stood up and started pacing the room she continued to lay there and look sad,

"Really? It was a different dragon. You're impossible. There isn't another dragon around for miles, remember? 'Cause we looked for other dragons so you could make friends."

Her eyes somehow got impossibly bigger and she became impossibly cuter.

"I guess miles don't mean anything when it comes to dragons. I guess you're right."

"Well, now I figure we have to go find who is coming to our town and burning things down... are you sure it wasn't you? Okay! Okay! I was just asking."

I walked back to the stairs and slid down the hand rail.

"Evie! Let's go, we're burning daylight here!"

As I opened the front door and was hit by the intense sunlight, it hit me, who couldn't tell the difference between Evie and another dragon? This was outrageous.
