It was finally time, finally time to leave. Behind me, the airport security guards were scanning person after person and soon it would be me.
I turned to face my parents and my sister. They all seemed anxious but for some reason (and for one of the first times ever, probably) I wasn't. I needed to get away, away from this life that had been dragging me down for 18 years. Away from this horrible little town, the place where I had single-handedly ruined my life. Well, it wasn't the town's fault. The fake friends and the fake people were just too much. I had never been a small town girl and my family knew that. I couldn't stand to having everyone knowing my business, whispering about me and waiting for me to make my next mistake. I needed to leave and get a fresh start, far away from this place. And the only thing I would miss was my family. The kind people who had put up with my complaining and nagging for as long as anyone could remember. But I knew they understood why I had to go, it wasn't healthy to stay anymore, not for anyone.
So, with a smile, I gave them each one more hug before turning to face airport security. This was going to be my chance to fix everything, to be happy. I could feel it and that was why I wasn't nervous as I stepped forward. I needed an escape and this was my chance.
