A couple of girls were startled by my sudden burst into the washroom. Ignoring them, I went to the last stall and locked myself in. This couldn't be happening. No. I mean. Who? Now everyone knows. I'm done for; my thoughts running wildly in my mind. I felt wet tears dripping down my face. I closed the damn toilet lid and sat there, hugging my knees close as I sobbed. The pain, the heartache- damn it all.
The first bell rung, indicating that class is starting. Through blurry vision, I checked my watch; I've sat here, crying, for thirty minutes. Might as well skip school, I thought. There's no point staying here while the thing circulates the student population. Pulling myself together, I slowly open the stall door, looking around, making sure I was the only one there.
I glanced at the mirror in front of me. Red eyes and stuffy nose, with mascara running down my cheeks. I look like a fucking raccoon. Turning the tap on, I let the water flow on my hands for a few seconds before washing my face. A few more rinses, and I kinda look better if you count as looking less red and puffy than before made a difference.
The hallway was empty when I got out. Hmm..class must have begun. I went back to my locker and took my bag. No one even bothered to move it, must be my lucky day. Grabbing it, I made my way past the cafeteria and went to the back of the school. There's an exit made by the troublemakers so they can skip school after lunch period. No one was guarding there, so I took the chance and I was out.
I took a left on Magnolia street and walked pass the shops and cafes. The sky turned dark and it started to drizzle. I picked up my pace and went to take shelter at the bus stop.I felt a buzz in my right back pocket. I took it out and saw the caller id. Unknown? I answered it anyway without thinking twice.
"Hello?"
A rather obvious and fake British accented voice answered me.
" Yes. Is this a miss Alexa?"
"Speaking. Can I help you with anything?"
"Well, its not so much as you can help me but rather can I help you?"
"What do you mean?"
"Turn around."I did as I was told, and was greeted by a rather cheeky smiling guy in a black hoodie, drenched from head to toe. I gawked in disbelief and put my phone away. I knew that face from a mile away. "Tyler? What are you doing here?", I said walking up to him. "I heard what happened. And I'm sorry." "It's fine. No big deal." I replied back, mustering a smile as best as I could till I felt a pair of arms pulling me close. I hugged Tyler back as tears started to fall once again. We stayed like that for a while. Me, silently crying while he was comforting me; gently rubbing my back. After I had calmed down, he took me to a nearby cafe. The power was out due to the storm. We both ordered hot tea to warm ourselves up.
"Alexa...I know who did it. It was the guys. Fucking Brent and his crew." I turned to him, surprised. "I knew I should've been more careful. They were trailing after me in hopes to get some dirt on me. Everyone knows I'm a perv, so going to a place like that wasn't a surprise to them. I guess it was just by luck that they were still hanging around when you were leaving."
I nodded, processing his every word. I felt his hand on my shoulder and I looked up. His piercing blue eyes, staring right into mine. "I'm sorry. For all of this. Clearly it's my fault." Something about his gaze gave light. It was soft, an apologetic look. "It's fine..Though..what am I gonna do now? I can't switch schools. It's senior year and I don't exactly have the money to move even if I wanted to." I said, turning away.
I heard him sighed. He knew I was right. "You gotta survive through this, at least for the remaining year. Promise me that alright?" That last part was sketchy but I nodded anyway.
"It's getting late, we should head home. School's almost over. You don't want any more drama for the day." he said, as he got up and offered me his hand. I looked at him quizzically before taking it.
The rain was still drizzling quite heavily, so we took the bus. Tyler was really kind to accompany me back home. We didn't really talk much, not that we both mind anyway. We just smiled at each other, time to time. Even after all that had happened, I still managed to smile. Whatever challenges that I may have, I'll let tomorrow's me handle it. As of right now, I want to enjoy this moment.
After getting off the bus, we walked a few blocks more before shortly arriving to my place.
"So..I'll see ya tomorrow?" Tyler asked. I nodded. "I will so as long as you're there too." "Deal." We both stood there awkwardly long for a while, neither wanting to move.
"Thanks..for today."
"It's no biggie. I was the cause behind it anyway."
"Kinda. I should have been more careful."
We both chuckled a bit.
"Yeah..."
"..Yeah.."
"Well, see you tomorrow!"
And with that Tyler walked off rather quickly. I smiled, and headed back inside.
