Roxy: Bodies Galore

ROXY
"Leave him alone!"

"Come on, I'm just playing around."

Another day of torment by Kevin, the high school bully. This time, he was making Mark lick the urinals in the boys' bathroom. I couldn't stand there any longer.

"Kevin, stop being a jerk for once."

"How about you back off before you join your little friend over here."

As he says this, Kevin shoves me up against the bathroom door. At this point, I've had enough. When he turned back toward Mark, I looked for a weapon to defend myself with.

There has to be something.
And then I see it.
I quietly walk toward the pipe in one of the stalls and pick it up.
What the hell is a pipe even doing in the bathroom?

Then I hear Mark say, "Please, I can't b-breath."

He was suffocating Mark. Now was the time to act. So I raise the pipe and bring it down on Kevin's head.
I let the pipe drop to the floor and stare in disbelief.

I hadn't realized what I'd done until Mark checks his pulse

"He's dead."

"What the fuck are we going to do?!"

"I don't know. Why did you kill him? What were you even thinking? You could go to prison!"

"He was going to kill you Mark."

"You still didn't have to hit him with a pipe."

"But what are we going to do?"
"We'll carry the body into my van and bury it in the woods. And nobody will ever find the body."

"And when people begin to realize he's missing?"

"The police will probably think he ran away or something. Didn't he try to do that a few years ago?"

"You seem real calm about this. As if you've done this before," Roxy says with a concerned look on her face. "Should I be worried?"

I already am.

"I have no idea what you're talking about. Let's just put the body in my van."

I reluctantly agree as I pick up Kevin's legs.

After we put the body in the back of Mark's van, I hop on the passenger side of the blue van. I stare out the window as I think about everything that's been happening.

This is it. After we bury Kevin's body in the woods, well be fine. The police will never know.

As Mark drives, I start to realize that it's already starting to get dark outside.

I can't believe we're spending our Friday night burying a body in the woods. We could be at that party right now.

The party in the woods!

"Mark? Remember that party tonight?"

"Are you seriously going to talk about a party when we have a dead body in the back?"

"What I'm trying to say is that the party is in the woods."

"Then we'll have to make sure nobody sees us."

I became increasingly nervous by how calm Mark was. I was freaking out and he barely bat an eye. What if he's done this before?

"What the hell Mark?! Are you not even the least bit concerned as to everything that might happen?!"

But Mark ignores this as he continues to drive.

When we get to the woods, Mark hands me a shovel.

"I'll carry the body while you dig a hole."

As we go deeper into the woods, I start to hear music.
Probably from the party.

"What do we do?"
"We obviously try to pass through the party."
"I have a better idea."

As if he didn't hear me, Mark kept walking towards the music.

"Mark," I hiss.
"What?"
"I think I should show up to the party. If they do find the body and ask questions, I could just say I was at the party and I only left to pee."

Mark stops for a moment as if to contemplate what we should do.

"Fine. But hurry so you can help me."

As I walk around, Jessica Rolland calls me over. I cautiously make my way toward her and plaster a smile on my face.

"You're the new girl, right? Roxy?"
I nervously shake my head, but remember everything that has happened today.
You need to act normal, don't make her suspicious.

"Yeah. I moved here from Philadelphia."
She smiles and as if suddenly remembering the girl next to her, her smile fades away and she begins to speak again.

"This is my best friend Kayla, we've been friends forever."
I turn to Kayla and smile, but before Jessica can speak again, another girl walks toward us. She hugs Jessica and Kayla and turns to me. Jessica introduces me. I wasn't interested in meeting new people after Mark was waiting for me, so I said hello and left.

"What took you so long? I almost went to come look for you."

"This girl, Jessica stopped me and introduced me to Kayla and Ada and they kept talking to me. Sorry."
"So you've met Jess, huh? She's nice but she talks a lot."

He pauses a moment and stands there. But not a minute later and he snaps out of it.
"Finish digging for me."

I finish the hole and turn to Mark. His back is to me and he's staring at Kevin's body.

We don't have time for this.

"Mark dump the body."

He proceeds to push the body into the hole and I put the dirt back in. However right before I finish, I hear a phone and we turn around. The phone illuminates a girl's face and she looks familiar.

Ada. Fuck.

They run and me and Mark stare at each other. I start towards them, but Mark grabs me.

"It's not worth it." I give him a dirty look and resume what I was doing. We finish and we walk back. We don't mention what just happen and as we head home, I think about what I will do in the morning.
