P.S the boy's name is Amen pronounced A-Man
I guess Mother didn't see the car coming, niether did I. She had all of her attention on me, just as all of mine was on her. I can still hear her wonderful bird-like voice, going on about a conversation that my mind refuses to recall. I remember the way the light bathed her face. It made her bright golden curls even more hevenly, if that was even possible. I then heard the unmistakable sound of a car horn. I looked behind Mom and out the window. I don't remember the car itself, I just remember that it was heading straight for us. I remember a loud ringing; then nothing.
I woke up in St.Anns a hospital. Great, my aunt was on a couch to my right, asleep. I clear my throat. Her eyes flew open and honed in on me. She sat up and walked towards my bed, where she then sat at the foot of. "Amen, Dear god, you're finally awake I thought that you would stay that way forever. You have just been asleep for so long." Gee thanks. "Hi, Aunt Clary, where is my Mother?" I said. She evaded my gaze and studied the sheets at my chest. She then returned her eyes to mine and smiled. "I've always loved the way you talk, it is always hard to tell whether you are an adult or not." She said. Thanks for changing the subject."Where's Mother?" I ask again. Her smile faded, her eyes bore a whole in the floor at her feet. "Jessie stayed only about half as long as you have so far." She said. "And how long is that?" I asked. "Three days." She replied. "Well-Where is she?" Is ask. "Amen," she says as she looks at me. "She's gone."
