I didn't stop running until I made it all the way back to the pack grounds. I couldn't stop. If I rested for even a moment... I could die.

I stumbled across the borders and the cold hand of fear finally released its grip on my heart. An overwhelming exhaustion and tingling filled my body and I could barely let out a short cry before my body hit the ground. I could hear faint yelling before time stopped.

The tingling hadn't left my body, even when I woke up. I sat there for a few moments with my eyes shut. My brain hadn't wrapped itself around the past events yet. I could only remember screams and a familiar yell and... dark green eyes. Dark brown eyes that belonged to a wolf.

I gasped and shot forward. My eyes flew open and I immediately grasped my head in my hands. My head was spinning and the world swirled around me.

"Miss, you need to lie back down." I focused my eyes forward and saw a woman in light blue scrubs and white latex gloves. I put two and two together in my brain. She was a doctor. That means I'm in the pack hospital.

"Why the hell am I here?" I demanded. The woman pressed her lips together in a thin line.

"Miss, I'm going to need you to calm down. You were found unconscious on the pack border. I'm sorry, but I don't exactly know what happened to you. You sustained minor injuries on your wrists and back, but all in all, you seem in a stable condition." Her caramel brown eyes met mine slowly and a flash of dark green irises filled my vision. I cried out and pulled my head down to my chest.

"What is going on here?" A dominant voice yelled. I froze automatically as the Alpha walked into the room. His eyes scanned the room before falling on me. "Oh, yes. It's our little visitor. You gave everyone such a shock, Winters. You were presumed dead when you never returned from your mission."

"Well I'm not."

"Would you like to tell me why?" The tension in the room grew and the woman took that as her cue to leave. She shut the door leaving the Alpha and I alone. I looked back at the Alpha. I didn't trust that man as far as I could throw him. Judging by the looks of him, I couldn't even lift him off the ground.

"I went looking for my friend. He disappeared and I couldn't leave without him." I replied coldly. The Alpha nodded his head as if he was telling me to keep going. I let out a sharp breath. "I... I met Kent. We talked, fought, and then he flipped out and I ran."

"Why did he... 'flip out'?" The Alpha asked, walking forward. He sat on the edge of the bed and I curled my legs in.

"I don't know." I don't know why I lied. It just seemed like the right thing to do.

"So you're trying to tell me that a mere girl fought Kent and survived?"

"I'm stronger than you think I am!" I spat. The Alpha laughed while shaking his head.

"Oh, yes. I've heard all about you, Winters. I've had many complaints on your behalf. You're not too popular around here. However, your skills are too important to just throw away. You were top of your class, yes?" I nodded and he went on. "Many people are fascinated by you. Goddess knows how you manage to predict enemy movement so quickly. I bet you would have been placed as a Commander if you weren't so... juvenile."

"I don't follow your perfect line of soldiers. I'm not juvenile. I just know my beliefs and I'm not forgetting them just because a man with a title tells me to."

You know, sometimes I should hold my tongue. It has gotten me in trouble numerous times yet I still mouth off. I saw the Alpha's eyes flash for a second before he stands up. He starts for the door when I remember something.
