A Little Story From Me

A few weeks back, during PE class, we were talking about a girl who had been expelled the year before. No one really knew why, and it was a big mystery about what had happened.

At my school we have groups called advisories, and in those groups we talk about stuff like religion, school, and life. Once, she mentioned that she had cut, but had never really said why. So another big mystery about her was cutting, and why someone would do that.

So in PE class, talking about her led to talknig about cutting. And that led to wondering, "Why would something do that?" there were a few theories. One was because people thought they didn't deserve to be happy, and another that they were trying to get attention. But it's neither. People do that because they need something else, to take away pain for a little bit. Much like suicidal teens, we just want peace.

So before you go and judge someone you know who cuts, or does self-harm, really think about why they're doing this. Would someone really hurt themself just for attention?

Thanks.
