{Carson's POV}
The wound in my shoulder throbbed as I dug my heels in the ground to stop myself from screaming. Aliyah and Danny were bent over me. I don't want them to worry about me at a time like this. I sat up, pretending that I was fine, my cut burning with every movement.
"I didn't know you were injured, Carson!" Aliyah's voiced filled with concern.
"Here," Danny offered me his arm as I struggled to regain balance on my feet.
The pain pounded in my arm. "God," I mumbled under my breath,"Guys, I need something to wrap the wound with."
Danny took the dark blue flannel he wore over his shirt and tied it around my shoulder. His hands were surprisingly gentle as he slowly tightened the cloth.
"Alright that should hold for a while," Danny said expressionless.
He seemed to still be out of it after what I had said to him.
"Jayce hasn't seemed to have found us yet," Aliyah began,"Let's try to make a small fire here and rest."
We gathered some wood and did our best to create a fire. It didn't work.
So we sat in the circle of dead trees... listening, waiting. The wind whipped by, sending a cold shiver down all of us.
Then, I don't know what made me look down, but I did. And laying there, barely sticking out under all the dead leaves and dirt, was a piece of paper. I reached down and slipped it out from all the dirt.
"Guys," I said,"Check this out." I held out the paper. There was something written on it.
"A note?" Questioned Danny.
I cleared my throat and began reading.
