New Year's Visit

Chapter 1

"Do we have to go back now?"

The Doctor pushed his hair back and made the big puppy eyes he knew Rose loved.

"Don't do that!" She said, laughingly poking him in the stomach. "And yes, we have to go back! She's my mother! I promised her we'd come for New Year's!" The Doctor leaned forward and looked into her eyes. "I... Have... A... Time... Machine! We could travel for another 10 years and still be there for New Year's!"

Rose smiled. "We can travel for 10 years after we spend New Year's at Mum's!"

She gave him a quick kiss on the cheek and then pushed him towards the TARDIS console. His Converse sneakers squeaked on the floor and his long brown coat billowed out behind him.

The Doctor started twiddling knobs, pushing buttons, and yanking levers. "If she slaps me again I'm holding you accountable."

Rose elbowed him playfully in the stomach. "I think I can live with that!"

"Doctor! We're here! Take off that ridiculous helmet right now!"

His voice, rather muffled, floated out of his helmet. "I need it! We're visiting Jackie!"

Suppressing a laugh, Rose grabbed his newfound headgear and pulled it off, ruffling his already sticky-uppy hair. Attempting to grab it back, he caught her hand instead, and they burst laughing into the cool evening. Their fingers intertwined, Rose pulled the Doctor along behind her towards the apartment building a block away. "Now you behave yourself, all right?" said Rose, a mock-stern expression on her face, as the lift arrived and they slowly ascended to the right floor. "Yes ma'am." the Doctor replied, grinning down at her.

The lift doors opened with a small 'ding!' and they walked up to the apartment that Rose had lived in for so long. Rose took a deep breath and smoothed down her blonde hair. "How do I look?" She asked, biting her lip. "Beautiful. As always." The Doctor said. Rose gave him a small smile and pressed the doorbell. The door opened and they were bombarded with very loud music. "Rose! You came!" The blonde woman who had answered the door engulfed her daughter in a huge hug. "And... You brought him?" she said, looking at the Doctor. "Yes, mum, I brought him!" Rose said, rolling her eyes apologetically at the Doctor, who had a mock-hurt impression on but was trying to keep himself from smiling. "Well come in, come in!" said Jackie loudly over the music, pulling Rose into the apartment. Rose grabbed the Doctor's hand and dragged him along behind her.
