Chapter 2
Chris Belton
The next day when I got to school everyone was talking. I felt as if I should maybe join in but then again I didn’t want to seem rude. I sat down beside Adrienne. “Where’s Addi?” I asked her. “Um…” she looked around the room, “I don’t know.” She looked around once more and shrugged her shoulders. “Hey, do you know who Chris Belton is?” I asked her. “That’s him.” She said pointing to a boy with brown hair swayed to the side, beautiful blue eyes and a smile that could make me drop to the floor. Luckily I was sitting down. “He’s so… so…” I couldn’t finish, so Adrienne finished for me. “Adorable? I know.” She smiled to herself and started looking at her math book. That’s the guy who added me on MSN last night? He’s so cute! The questions I was asking myself last night came into mind. The bell rang and everyone scrambled to their seats. Addi walked in and gave a scornful look at a girl with dark brown hair and glossy lips. Addi sat down and let out an angry sigh. “Are you okay?” I asked. She didn’t answer. She just kept staring at the back of that glossy girl’s head. “That’s Chantel Mandallin.” Adrienne whispered in my ear. “The boyfriend stealer, and rudest, most popular, prettiest girl in school.” She finished. “Oh.” I said. Then the teacher walked in all flustered and said “Sorry I’m late. Let’s begin class.” The scorn flushed out of Addi’s face as she opened her math. All I could think about that period was Chris Belton. But seriously, why did he add me?
Finally it was lunch. After I grabbed my food, I looked around for a seat. I didn’t see Addi or Adrienne anywhere. So I sat down next to four girls at a table near the window. I said “Hi. You mind if I sit here?” and the girl across from me nodded. “I’m Lindsay, this is Kirstin, Melissa and Taylor.” Lindsay looked an awful lot like Lindsay Lohan. She had freckles and red hair that was curled almost perfectly. Except for the curles, she could’ve been Lohan’s twin. She saw I was kind of staring at her so she said, “My older sister Kat really likes Lindsay Lohan. She picked my name.” I nodded. That made sense. “I was born with freckles and red hair so my sister… yeah.” She said. I nodded again and added “That’s cool.” Taylor had blonde hair that was straighter than an arrow. Her bangs were pulled back by a black headband. She smiled at me and showed that she had braces. Kirsten had light brown hair that went down to almost her waist. It was almost as straight as Taylor’s. She took some contacts out of her eyes. “These bother me so much!” she said, putting the contacts in a case. Then she grabbed some brown glasses and put them on. “But I hate these.” She said. “I like them.” I said. She gave me a small smile. Then Melissa took a sharp thing out of her bag and I saw it was a needle. “Woah man, you know I hate needles.” Lindsay said and turned away. “Diabetes?” I asked. “How’d you know?” she said. “My friend Lacey, from New York has diabetes too.” I said. I was used to needles now. Melissa had short, wavy, strawberry blonde hair. She had ruby red lips and deep brown eyes. I saw Addi come out of the bathroom with Adrienne. Addi was crying! “I got to go!” I said and rushed over. “What’s wrong?” I asked. “Shhh… her acting career is at work!” Adrienne whispered. Addi winked at me and kept crying. They told me later, after school that Addi wanted to be an actress more than anything. I understood. Adrienne wanted to be a fashion designer. I secretly wanted to be a writer. I wrote in my diary a lot. Sometimes I wrote stories and hid them in a file on my computer.
“Three more days girl!” Addi said. “Until what?” I asked. I was kind of off in my own world. “Our sleepover. You didn’t forget, did you?” Adrienne said. “Oh! Of course! I was totally kidding. How could I forget?” I said quickly. “Let’s walk home together.” Addi said. Adrienne nodded. I was going to go to the library, but I didn’t want them to know I wanted to be a writer. I didn’t even know them yet. Hardly. “Okay.” I said. I started walking towards my house, and Addi and Adrienne followed me. “Can we come over and study for that test on Thursday?” Adrienne asked. “I’ll ask.” I said. We came to my house and I walked inside. “Hello?” I called. “Back here.” My dad called back. He was in his office. “Wait here.” I said to Addi and Adrienne, I pointed to the kitchen. They sat down at the table and talked quietly. I walked to my dad’s office. “Hey dad can I study with some friends here?” I crossed my fingers. “Stay upstairs, they’ll be gone by dinner?” he replied. “Yes.” I turned away and went into the kitchen before he could change his mind. “Um… you can stay until dinner time. Wanna call your parents?” I said, leading them to my room. “Sure.” I gave Adrienne the phone and she walked into the hall.
“Addi… why were you so mad this morning?” I asked. “Chantel…” she trailed off. “I understand.” I said. Then I told her about Chris’s friend request last night. Then she phoned and I told Adrienne. “Who told him my e-mail address? I didn’t even know it until last night.” I asked them. “Oh… I’m sorry. I did.” Adrienne said quietly. I could tell she was sad. “It’s okay. I just was wondering.” I said. She looked better after I said that. “Well that solves one out of three questions.” Addi said, then she plopped on my bed and told us to put our thinking caps on. “So we need to figure out why he wanted to add me.” I said. I sat down at my computer and looked at Adrienne. “What did he say?” I stared in thought at her. “He said, So what do you think of Amy? Do you have her on msn? And then I said. She’s awesome! Yeah, want her e-mail? And then he said sure so I gave it to him and he said I think she’s sort of cute. And that’s when I had to go take a shower. He must have added you when I left.” Adrienne explained. I soaked it in. “He… thought… I wa…wa…was cute?” I sputtered. “I guess.” Adrienne said. “So why do you think he was online so late? It was like 1:00am!” I said. I was still a little confused. “He’s always on late Ace.” Adrienne laughed. Then Addi sat up and said “Ace? Who’s Ace?” I was wondering that too. “Amy. I nicknamed her Ace! It’s awesomazable!” I laughed. It was pretty awesomazable.
