When I got home, I ran upstairs to my room and plopped on my bed. On the roof of my bedroom was a poster of the celebrities from my favourite TV show. My best friend in NY gave it to me. Her name is Leeza. I miss her. I went back down stairs and knocked on my dad’s office door.

No answer. I opened it. “Hello?” He wasn’t there. I checked the fridge door and there was no note. My dad always leaves me a note when he’s not home. I called his cellphone. “Hello, Charlie Oliven’s cellphone.” A woman’s voice came after the sixth ring. “Um... hi. Who is this?” I asked. “Pardon me?” the woman asked. She had the faintest Swedish accent. “Never mind. Is my dad there? Charlie?” I seriously wanted to know why some strange woman answered my dad’s cell phone. “Oh yes. One moment.” She said. “Hello?” There was my dad’s voice. Finally. “Hey dad. I just got home.” I said. “Oh sorry. Did I forget to leave a note?” He sounded like he was talking to somebody else too.  “Yeah. It’s okay. So where are you? Who was that girl who answered your phone?” I was getting curious. “I’m at the market. I ran into an old friend from high school. I’ll be home in ten minutes okay Amy?” he was totally talking to someone after he talked to me. “Alright. Bye.” I hung up and went back to my room. I looked at my computer. Why can’t I have MSN?  I thought to myself. I was just about to throw the two e-mail addresses in the trash when I heard a knock on my door. I ran downstairs and looked through the peek hole. It was my dad! I opened the door. “I forgot my key… again.” He said. I laughed. “Can you put these in the fridge?” he handed me some groceries. “Sure thing.” I said. “So dad, I needed to talk to you about something.” I said. I led him to the living room. We sat down. “I met some girls today in homeroom and they gave me these.” I handed him the e-mail addresses. He looked confused. “They wanted me to add them on MSN.” I said. I have to spell everything out for him. “Oh. What are their names?” he said. “Addison and Adrienne. I sit right in between them.” He stared at the pieces of paper. “Please daddy, can I have MSN?” I saw he wasn’t convinced, so I pulled the puppy dog face. “I’ll think about it.” He finally answered. I saw he was done talking so I went back to my room. ‘I’ll think about it’ for my dad usually means yes. I worked really hard in class so I didn’t have homework today. I’m bored. So I think about Addison and Adrienne. Addison is really smart and Adrienne is really funny. They’re both really nice too. They’re some of the few people who talked to me today. I have nothing to do right now but write in my journal. So I guess that’s what I’ll do.

Monday, January 28th.

Today was my first day at Millbrook middle school. Our teacher Mrs. Laduff is really scary but hides it well. She sat me in between these two girls named Adrienne and Addison. They’re nice, so I didn’t mind today. I sat alone at lunch time though. They invited me over but I felt like sitting alone. Maybe I’ll sit with them tomorrow. If they invite me. I wish I had MSN. Addison and Adrienne have it. It wasn’t very popular in New York so I guess since my friends there didn’t have it, I didn’t need it. I’m glad I didn’t have any homework today.  I miss Leeza. But I guess I’ll see her on spring break. But that’s in like two months. I would call her but it’s long distance. My dad only allows one call a week. I’ve already used this week’s call. But maybe if I get MSN, and I call her so she can get MSN, we can talk every day.

My dad called me down for supper. “I’ve been thinking about MSN, and since you’re eleven and your new friends have it, I guess you can too.” He said. I smiled really big and gave him a hug. He smiled back at me. I ran upstairs. I have a phone in my room, so I grabbed it and called Addison. “Hello?” answered a nice lady’s voice. It was probably Addison’s mom. “Hi, is Addison there?” I asked. “Yes. One minute please.” She said. I heard her call Addison’s name. “Hello?” came Addison’s voice. “Hi! It’s Amy.” I said, hoping she remembered me. I guess she did. “Oh, hi Amy!” “Hi, I was just calling to tell you my dad is going to let me get MSN tonight. Are you going online tonight?” I asked. “Yeah, Adrienne wants me to meet her on there. I have to go, but maybe talk to you later, k?” she said. “Okay.” I hung up. I walked over to my computer and logged on. My dad helped me create my MSN and then he left the room. I sent a friend request to Adrienne and then Addison. I went and sat on my bed. I really wished I could call Leeza. I hear a ding on my computer. I looked at the screen and it said

ADDISON HAS ACCEPTED YOUR FRIEND REQUEST!

I looked and it said she was online. I clicked on her name.

Amy says: Hey, what’s up?

Addi says: hey Amy

Amy says:  Is Adrienne still coming on?

Addi says: yeah she just came on. I’ll add her to the convo.

Adrienne has joined the conversation.

Adrienne says: Hey guys!

We talked for a while but then slowly everyone had to go. I never knew how much fun a little chat on your computer could be. Addison said I could call her Addi. Adrienne doesn’t have a nickname but she asked ME if I could come up with it! I’m sure they’re my friends now, because Adrienne invited me to sleep over at her house this weekend! Addi’s coming too! It’ll be so much fun! I’m looking forward to school tomorrow. But the problem is… tomorrow is Tuesday. I can’t wait four whole days to have my first sleepover in Millbrook! But I guess I’m going to have to. I went downstairs to ask my dad if I could call mom. My mom is still in New York. When mom and dad split, they decided to make me move to Alabama with dad, instead of staying in New York with all my friends. “It’s too late tonight.” He said. “But I want to tell her about MSN and Addi and Adrienne.” I protested. “I said no. Now go get ready for bed.” He said. I trudged back upstairs. I changed into my pyjamas and lied over top of my comforter. I stared at the poster of the cast of my favourite TV show. “Time for bed Amy!” my dad yelled from downstairs, “Night!” I yelled and turned off my lamp.

In the middle of the night I heard my computer ding. I was too tired to look so I just ignored it. I rolled over and accidently wacked my lamp and it turned on. It woke me up so I decided to check the computer. It said I had a new friend request. I thought it was weird because I just created my MSN seven hours ago and only knew Addi and Adrienne. I had already added both of them. I clicked on the link to see who wanted to add me. Chris Belton. I heard that name in homeroom. I heard footsteps. I quickly turned off my screen and literally jumped higher than ever into my bed. I heard my dad open the door. I prayed he believed I was asleep. I guess he did because I heard him shut the door and go back down the hallway. I sighed and decided to just go back to sleep. The same thoughts kept flying through my mind that night. Why would Chris Belton want to add me? Where did he get my e-mail? Why was he on MSN so late at night?  I guess I’ll find out tomorrow.
