" Friends are those
who need one another,
But friends are foes
who leave one for another. "

I HAVE SPOKEN to the guidance counselor countless of times, but there was no use. I have been going through breakdowns like tearing apart is as simple as breathing air.

I never knew who to trust until now, and after all, being a sophomore, isn't the "highest position" in high school. Everybody favoured the seniors, mostly because they have experience and we don't.

I have been friends with three of them, and one was Elene Foyers, my friend ever since, I went to this academy. We were seatmates during an orientation about the school. Every time we went to a higher grade level, she would get sassier because all she cared about was popularity and beauty.

Then there goes senior number two, Calee Sawyer. A skilled artist and singer, all anyone would go for. She was a beauty, though she was treacherous. She is still kind to me, but not as kind as before. Her bittersweet lies towards me were what I always quoted in my head. Simple yet unreliable words such as nugatory, meaning having no consequence or force.

Vienna Rosales is a creative and smart Filipino. She was actually two-faced; her beautiful angelic side against her demonic, hot-headed side. She sugarcoated practically everything, and she has become somewhat of a pancake, a soft, savoury snack and breakfast (she was always kind whenever it was first period) which is best with syrup.

They were all different, emotionally hurting me in three different ways. Elene never took a last look at me once she got the fame (she was pretty cliché). Calee has been fooling me by using sweet words, and only then when she turned her back from me, did I know that she has been silently lying to me. Vienna was like Calee but fiercer. She talked about me to my friends in a bad way, which was actually the reason why most of them left me. She has convinced me that they didn't leave me; they were playing a game, a game I could not know of.

Since then, I had only two friends by my side, Joan and Chloe. We were known as quote unquote beauty and feisty= beasty. I rolled my eyes at that, but it did work, bea from beauty and sty from feisty. Yet the word beasty is not even a word; it's supposed to be beastly. I never understood how we were beastly, though.

"Hello? Earth to Kenedee!" both of my friends waved their hands in front of my face, snappih me out of my thoughts.

I looked at them, "Sorry. How long was I spacing out?"

"Um, ten minutes or so. What were you thinking about anyway? It's Saturday, your try-not-to-think day. What happened to that?" Joan pointed out.

I shrugged. Chloe's phone rang, and she walked to the balcony and talked in hushed tones. Joan faced me, frowning. "I heard she has been in contact with Elene lately."

"Where'd you get that from?" I asked her.

"Leslie, the gossip girl," she replied in a hurry.

"Leslie may say the truth, but we all know it's a lie," I snapped. "I trust Chloe, it's just Elene because if she can hurt me, she can hurt Chloe."

"What do you suppose we do?" Joan asked.

I opened and closed my mouth, but nothing came out but an empty string of air. I sighed, running my hands through my hair, "I'll think about it."

Right after our short planning, Chloe entered the room with a smile, "So.. what did I miss?"

that's it for this chapter!

one question, though:
what should kenedee and joan do about their situation?

it's sunny in my country right now, and i'm sweating like a pig.

next chapter will hopefully be twice as long as this one, a 1500 word chapter ( although this chap consists of 610 words ).

if there's anything wrong you've noticed, do comment it. i'd like to know.

please do vote, comment, and follow me, because i would really appreciate it.

lots of love,
aryana
